Hi everyone,

I started with an itchy rash on my arms last night and by this morning it's on the back of my legs too. It itches and burns like crazy, I have no idea what it's from. Can you get this reaction from getting glutened? I looked on the delphi list and it says Benadryl might not be safe. What can I take?? Does anyone have a suggestion? HELP!

Thanks,
Chris

Are you Gluten Sensitive? CD? It could be from gluten contained food or an allergy/intolerance to another food group. Often times, persons with gluten sensitivities become strangely intolerant of other food group items such as, milk, eggs, yeast, soy, corn etc... You should try an elimination diet and testing for these items.

First off, get to a dermatologist because if it's DH (skin lesions from CD) they can tell by a sample right away for you. If you have DH for sure you definitely have celiac disease.

Hope you feel better

MJ,

Yes, I was diagnosed with CD a month ago. This is the first time I've gotten a rash like this. I hope this isn't going to be a normal thing for me. It really stinks!

Hi,
I was diagnosed with DH and had positive bloodwork, and I am gluten-free and on Dapsone right now, and have no more rash. I have been doing a lot of reading, especially on forums. It seems that some celiacs get DH if they've gone GF and then ingest gluten, even if they hever had DH before going GF. Maybe gluten sort of "shocks" our bodies when it's reintroduced after it's been purged from our system, bringing about new symptoms. So, what you have might be DH. For DH, the longterm solution is the GF diet, and usually taking Dapsone for the short term, which clears up skin symptoms.

However, it could be something unrelated. (I personally like to attribute anything wrong with me to gluten, but that's not smart). A dermatologist would take a biopsy from near the rash and an immunoflourescence test would check for granular IgA deposits in your skin, which would mean DH. A dermatologist could also probably tell you if it's obviously something unrelated. Good Luck!
