does anyone have any idea how to fight the sudden urges to want to go to fast food places or just pick up something at the spure of the moment when you work in a grocery store and food is all around and others in your dept can order pizza or that? Confused

I know what you mean...and I have only been GF for a month or two. I find that McDonalds french fries cure all my cravings, but that's cause they're my favorite junk food. In fact, I'm off for some right now! But I know that sometimes we crave different things. Pizza cravings are tough. But it's all worth it, right? Just be grateful there's a simple solution to such an awful problem. I guess thinking about that and being grateful puts things in perspective.

Boy those cravings!!!!!!!!! I have been saved by Whole Foods. They have gluten free bread, pastas (that my kids couldn't even tell they were gluten free) Frozen pizza's and Eggo like waffles that are great. A lady told me the other day that at Randall's they have gluten free cookies (didn't look for any at Whole Foods). Gluten free bread at Krogers. If you can have corn...Fritos or plain doritos help.
Southwest Chicken Salad at Jack in the Box has been ok with me (so far) and so have the hard shelled taco's at Taco Bell. Can't do the McDonald's thing because of the cross contamination with their onion rings in the same oil. When in denial of all of this CD stuff I ate french fries at a little burger joint and they used the same oil for onion rings and sure found out the hard way. Embarassed I'm learning day by day like we all are........Nikki

I'm surprised Taco Bell doesn't give you a problem. Their seasoning that they use in their meat has wheat flour in it. Their food gave me the killer stomache pains; french fries in the same oil don't usually (though I know I shouldn't be eating them).

I looked on their website and it said that the tacos don't have wheat in them. I will check again. Never hurts to look again. Thanks......

Hi Nikki,

Welcome to the board! WOW - You have a McD's that has onion rings? I have not seen this. Burger King's have onion rings - most will stay away from the BK's because cross contamination issues. I miss Whoppers...

Most McD's have dedicated fryers for their fries.

Hey Chris. Can you explain to me, from that website, it says, no wheat in the taco's but it has gluten. I am so new at this, I am just not quite getting all this. I would appreciate any insight on this.....Nikki

Hi Nikki,

I only glanced at that list...but my guess is that they maybe using either barley or rye in the ingredients. Wheat free and gluten free are not the same thing (close, but no banana Smile). It's easy to get caught on that when starting out. Gluten exists in wheat, barely and rye. So, when you see Wheat Free - you need to examine it very closely to see if it is Gluten Free too. It may very well be GF..but you don't know unless you check the ingredients. Oats is another thing that may be included in Wheat free products. Oats are quite controverisal yet.

I find this whole Taco Bell thing rather confusing. I wrote Yum a while back and they layed out for me everything I could eat at Taco Bell. I have been eating that since and haven't had any problems. I usually get a hard taco with chicken instead of beef and the cinnamon twists. So now I wonder have they changed something or are they doing what other companies are doing and marking many things as possible contaminants to avoid trouble if someone gets sick? If that is what they're doing then I personally feel that's terrible. Instead of taking the easy way out and marking everything inedible for us, they should actually look into their products and suppliers. Sorry for the rant but I feel just as we are making progress in some companies, others become stubborn and put us back at the drawing board. Why does everyone cater to nut and dairy allergies, but no one seems to bother with wheat allergies. Ug!
