Hi all,
I haven't gotten an actual diagnosis on the rice or potatoes, but I know what they do to me, and it isn't nice. Watching what I ate and cutting them out (and then trying to add them back in) helped me narrow it down. I also have problems with bananas.
Now, I'm kind of lost on breads. Most flour mixes contain rice and potato flour. Could anyone who deals with multiple food allergies/intolerances/sensitivities please send along links to appropriate recipes? I've been trying to skim through the forums, but I've been having migraines a lot this past week and it's hard to spend too much time on the computer. (I have one now, sorry if this is a disjointed sounding post.) _________________ GF since May '07, positive blood-test results. |

There are a few different flour mixes in Betty Hagman's books that do not have rice or potato. There is the Light Bean flour mix that has garfava, tapioca and cornstarch. There is also a Four Flour Bean Mix that has garfava, sorghum, cornstarch and tapioca. I would highly recommend getting the "The Gluten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread" book by Betty as it has many alternatives to the regular rice/potato GF mix.
Good luck! |

Hey Toothpaste,
I am allergic to rice and now have found myself completely intolerant to potatoes in any form. I've found that I really do best with no grains whatsoever, and very limited nightshades (potatos are in the nightshade family along w/peppers and tomatos). It sounds extreme, but otherwise I am miserable. Tapioca/manioc/yucca (not a grain but a root) is the main ingredient in Chebe bread mixes and is the only bready/baked thing I eat anymore. I make flatbreads/tortillas, rolls and pizza crusts.
Oh yeah, I can't do beans amd corn either, as my most recent tests have confirmed for me.
Wish I had more to offer, but that is how I cope. _________________ Nance

thank you everyone!
Pajohnso- I do have that book, but hadn't tried mixing any of the bean flours yet. It can be hard to find some of them in our area. I guess I'll have to special order!
I had chebe pizza for lunch, Nanc- yummmmm! My mom got me hooked on that stuff. I had some scary days when I couldn't find it locally down here at first.
Elana- LOVE what I've seen of your site so far. I'll be trying those recipes! _________________ GF since May '07, positive blood-test results. |
