|
|
| After testing negative for celiac and then my naturopath's tests showing gluten intolerance, I have been off gluten for 2 months and am feeling fabulous...so much better than the last two years--I am thrilled. so this is a dumb question, but I find myself wondering if there is a reason to try to eat gluten to see what happens. I really don't miss it and am afraid to try it, but I wonder if I should. what do you think? yp |

Hi YP,
You have to ask yourself - is the knowledge you gain from going back worth the cost of the side effects?
If you are happy with the way things are going, there's no reason to go back.
If you are 100% confident that gluten does you no favors, there's no reason to go back.
If you are afraid of the consequences, there's no reason to go back.
When I was doing my trials, I went on/off gluten several times before I made up my mind that I had to remove it fully. I think I willing did gluten once or twice after saying no more. If I wasn't sure before that, I sure was AFTER that. My last willful gluten exposure was a small [I mean small - a nibble] bite of a Krispy Kreme donut. Yup, I was up with a gut ache all night. _________________ Al

It's not a stupid question. Quite a few people try gluten again "just to make sure". I'm positive after a few bites (and a night of misery) you'll get your answer.  _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

I haven't found one yet and I don't have an official dx either. _________________ Nance

great answers, thank you. I am glad you all even understood my question
I think I am most surprised that rather than wish I could eat this or that, I am happy to not eat them just to feel so good.
I guess if the desire presents itself, I will give it a try, but it seems I am glad to just get through the day without a nap and live without taking pain meds.
thanks to all, yp |

I have not had an official diagnosis, either. Got pos results from Enterolab, but before that, I had doubts. Even though I was feeling so much better since stopping gluten. In Jan, I went to a conference in another town for 5 days, then we went to Sea World after that. I brought a lot of stuff for snacks/breakfast, but we ate out every night. Being rather shy, I was not ready to start questioning the restaurant staff about gluten, and just ordered what I thought would probably be gluten-free. What led to my doubts is that I did not get sick once. Could the odds be good that my method would work so well?
So when we got home, my dh ordered a piece of key lime pie. I had a few bites, including crust. Next day, I was convinced! _________________ Jen
