| Hi, new member. My son is awaiting results from his initial blood work, but my wife and I are already beginning to train ourselves to read labels. I've noticed that Utz Snack Foods seems to have very direct labels. I don't know what questions to ask them to identify their label procedures, but if someone with more experience would like to contact them, their information should be on www.utzsnacks.com |

Hi Red,
Welcome to the board! I think waiting for the results is the hardest part .
Here's kind of a generic form that I use when dealing with companies...
| Quote: | I would like to know <company name> policy on labeling allergens. Specifically, I'd like to know about gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and oats and their derivatives.
When it comes to gluten, currently the FALCPA law requires only wheat to be declared in ingredient lists or the allergen "contains" statement. Since I can not consume gluten due to Celiac Disease, I must also know if barley, rye or oats are contained in your product.
Will you clearly declare barley, rye or oats in your ingredient list? Example: "Natural Flavors (Barley protein)"
Not only do I need to be concerned about gluten free ingredients, I must also be concerned about cross contamination during processing/packaging.
What policies and procedures do you have in place for cleaning your production lines between runs of gluten products and gluten free products?
Thank you for your time! |

Utz is a great company in that they state very clearly on their bag if a product is gluten-free. I have had no problem using their GF products. You certainly could contact them if you feel you need to ask about how they make certain their products are GF. I'm sure they would be happy to answer any questions you have. _________________ Steph |
