Hello everyone,

I seem to have a problem with rice. I bloat terribly after eating it. I was eating brown, switched to white as I believe its easier on the gut but the bloating is just as bad.

Anyone else have this problem or know why it does this. Its definitely not anything I'm having with it - just a bit of fish and veg.

Thanks.

Hi Pat,

Thanks a lot for the response and link. Very interesting - I didn't know any of that! My reaction to rice is purely bad bloating (much worse than any other food) and not really in keeping with my reaction to eating gluten which is stabbing pain, nausea and diarrhoea within 20 minutes.

I thought maybe it is just too "starchy". Anyway thanks a lot for the info!

Yvonne

That was very interesting about the rice Pat and thanks for the information.
Yvonne:
I know what you mean. I have been GF for 2 weeks and 4 days now but I too notice bloating and gassy most of the time. I thought that was just part of the territory. Haven't tried the Beano yet but considering it since it is the weekend and I will be around other human beings. I'll let you know if it works..............Nikki from TX

Hi Nikki,

Beano is NOT GF...I just ran across this today.

Yvonne - some people have problems with rice too. I'll have to look for some more info on it...it I have seen it be an issue for some.

LOL!! Thanks Nikki..now arise and go about-eth your merry way! King Al appreciates thou's kind-eth words Very Happy

I haven't found a replacement...but I did see this on the beano site. Hmmm It may just be a CYA statement. I'll have to do some more research...

http://www.beanogas.com/faqs.asp#16

Does Beano contain gluten?

The smallest amount of gluten that can be chemically detected in a product is 0.00016 percent. Results of our testing has shown that Beano contains less than 0.00016 percent gluten. Although the amount of gluten in Beano is less than the limit of detection, we would recommend that individuals who have concerns about the use of Beano speak with their physician.

I remember being in the UP of MI late june early July. Hot as the dickens. You people up there don't have AC either. Thought I was going to die. Couldn't even get drunk at the "poker run" because I needed more water. LOL

Well, some people tolerate rice others are not so lucky. Rice is the only food that will not cause gas in the intestine; however, starch will turn into sugar which is an irritant for some individuals.

As for myself, I am yeast intolerant. If rice is a starch such as potatoes then I should restrict my dietary intake of these as they will turn into sugar which will disrupt the bacterial flora within the intestines.

Al, didn't know about the Beano facto and I too thank you for the info on this! Yee gads, what else will I need to eliminate? javascript:emoticon('Rolling Eyes')

Ah, I think you may just have solved my problem MJ. Sugar! I didn't think of that at all.

I am having a big problem with sugar right now. Craving sweets like crazy but bloat really badly as soon as I eat a sweet.

I have been told that I definitely don't have Candida but do have a yeast problem from peanuts - Aspergillus.

This whole thing is just too confusing for me today - sick and tired of being sick and tired and not being able to eat anything.

I keep eating things I think are ok only to find they are not which makes me really mad with myself for not being more vigilant.

Sometimes I think I was better off not knowing about my gluten problem! Yes, I know, I know - the damage in the long run.

Sorry guys, feeling sorry for myself today. Just had a bad weekend - cooking great food for my kids and not being able to eat it myself!
