Last night was supposed to be Chicken Satay. But when I took the chicken out of the oven, the baking pan I had it in exploded all over the kitchen. There were shards of scalding hot glass in the chicken, the dipping sauce, in the butter dish across the room, and in everything else I had prepared for dinner. Shocked Luckily, I did not get any of it in my eye or anything. So last night for dinner we had....rice.

Holy crap! Shocked What would make a glass baking dish explode like that? Well, at least nobody was hurt and you still had some kind of food.

moisture in a crack in the dish? Dripping cold water onto the hot baking dish? Once as a young kid, I flicked cold water at a incandescent light bulb and it shattered.

Oh my gosh!!! I'm glad everyone is alright. I hope the rice was fantastic. (I had rice too, but I had a nice little Hormel Beef Au Jus microwaveable dinner to go with it)

I think there must have been a small crack or something in it and the temperature change when I took it out of the oven was just too much. I picked it up out of the oven with a pot holder, stood up and there was this giant smashing noise as it exploded. I was left there holding the broken-off side of the pan in my hand and blinking trying to figure out what the heck happened.

The pan was an older one that we got as a wedding gift 14 years ago. I forgot my wedding anniversary last week, and I think this is bad anniversary forgetting karma coming around to get me.

Was it Corelle?

Someone mentioned once that a piece of Corelle exploded into shards and I kind of just blew it off until it happened to a plate my daughter had just taken out of the microwave. Exclamation

There were shards of glass EVERYWHERE.

Wow Colleen- that's really scary. Glad everyone is ok.

Tonight for me was tinky pasta with Kraft mac/n/cheese sauce.

Brown rice and steak stir fry. Was pretty good! The rice and steak were left over from dinners earlier this week, so it was a chance to get rid of some leftovers.

Last night was spaghetti - my favorite meal - but only the family ate it. I opted out because spaghetti doesn't like me right now.

Tonight is horseradish-crusted roast beast with roasted root vegetables. Yummy.

Been a week of eating on the run. Thank goodness I'm satisfied with leftovers. Had homemade Italian beef, Buffalo chicken and rice, ribs and all of the fixings and tonight I think I'll make a 'za. Got a lot to do before that though.

Eating alone tonight, so a half of a bowl of left-over split pea soup and a couple of left-over corn fritters.

Scalloped potatoes, Cathy-Cath salad and French Silk Pie. We're having friends over for dinner.

Something based on morel mushrooms today. They're in season, and I have a friend who's a former chef and who has so far done very well with the gluten-free challenge (i.e. cooking for me Wink ). (He also shows a level of GF knowledge unusual to the non-GF crowd even without my help, so my comfort level with him is very high.)

Was it a clear pyrex dish? I've heard of newer ones exploding, but not older ones.
Some newer ones are made with less expensive materials and can 'spontaneously' shatter. No previous cracks, no sudden hot to cold transition.. just normal use.

Good to hear no injuries,
