Sue - if that happens again - "mark" your steak. Cut it, slice it, something...so you know.

Another suggestion I saw once (probably here), was to keep the plate of food that was prepared wrong at your table until they bring the new plate out. Then you are assured that everything (even the plate) is new.

I squirt ketchup all over it. Laughing

I'm doing much better! Yay for high dose antibiotics, definitely helping with the lyme.

I know I'm probably coming in late regarding this topic, but a good friend ours has just been dx'd with Lyme disease. He's pretty advanced, but it's taken over a year to dx it. In fact the blot results just came in this week. He's on 13 different meds.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this, too.

Kristie

It could be much worse. I was on and off doxy for a year while my docs tried to figure it out. the infectious disease doc didn't want me on it (lame POS), begged my doc a couple months later to rx it for "acne" etc. so it's not as bad as it could be. So despite having it for over 2 years I'm not as bad as I would be otherwise. Some balance issues in addition to the fatigue, thankfully no strange skin sensations or lightheadedness in a while.

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday was my 3-month GFCF anniversary. I'm doing great! I realized just recently that the slight peripheral neuropathy feeling in my feet is gone. I forgot all about it! In the past, I've associated it with being anemic, so maybe I'm finally better in that regard. YAY!

It still feels so strange and amazing to be able to eat food without a negative reaction. I'm so used to feeling SOMETHING in my neck/throat, brain, gut, etc. I wish it didn't take me several very bad years of screwing up my health (not counting the numerous years of wondering what was wrong with me) before I stopped being in denial and embraced the truth.

My brother got married at the beginning of the month. He and his new wife had a special meal prepared for me at the reception! I spoke to them about the food prior to the wedding, and I knew that the only thing I could eat from their fabulous buffet was the fresh fruit! I planned to eat a big lunch and bring a snack or something for myself, but that was not acceptable to them. (I was fine with it, though!) At their request, I e-mailed ALL of my dietary restrictions/guidelines Rolling Eyes to them and attached copies of my dining cards, and my very efficient new sister-in-law took care of the rest. The result was a delicious meal: large salad with oil and balsamic vinegar dressing, salmon, steamed mixed veggies, and red potatoes...and the fresh fruit for dessert! Very Happy I was so stuffed I never missed the cake! I really feel blessed to have the support of my family and friends...

Oh, and my mom went to another wedding this month, and she found out there were several GF meals prepared at the reception! Smile

Hope everyone has a great month!

Tawny

Thanks for the suggestions about marking my steak. I never thought about it. Smile

I have emailed many of the local restaurants asking for a list of menu items that I can eat which are gluten free and have NO risk of CC.

Have a good one all!

I guess I should check in too. Laughing I've gone so long not doing so this month!

JD is growing by leaps and bounds, but our last visit to the doctor has us weighing him again. Rolling Eyes He thinks that JD isn't growing (weight wise) enough. Funny thing though, he never asked about his development -- ever-- in the whole entire visit!

I think JD isn't packing on weight because he is so gosh darn mobile. I swear you have to tie him down to sleep. Most times he just isn't going to on his own (except yesterday, Monday and Sunday). He's started turning himself over lots and lots to play, and he's trying ever so hard to crawl... but he backs up and slithers like a snake. Laughing Three months old is really early for that -- and he's teething. (has been since month 2) I think that plays into his weight some, but also the fact he is built like I was and just is not a porky breastfed baby.

From what I'm reading, he's right where he should be as a breastfed baby... but compared to formula fed + supplimented with cereals/other food babies -- he's really low on the weight scale. (no wonder! they're being porked up by additives and grains he and I can't have!)

He's started reacting topically to any gluten he is near, worse than I do. He gets terrible DH "boils" where it touches. His only contact is either going down our stairway which joins with the bakery/post office storefront, and when we go out shopping or at my inlaws (who eat gluten) home.

He keeps me really busy either holding or entertaining... and loves being anything BUT still.

My husband fell and twisted his ankle earlier this month - hit his bad knees too, and then was sick for two weeks, so needless to say between the baby and him, I had my hands more than full!

Hope all of you had better fortune this month

This has been a busy month for me. A lot of canning, freezing, and just putting the garden to bed for the winter. I enjoy doing it though.

I also finally am weaving. I love it. The other night I was sitting in my living room weaving, and suddenly realized that I was utterly, happily, content. I could not think of anything I would rather be doing right then.

On the food front. I'm almost 11 months GF, and doing great. I did get glutened last night for the first time in about 6 months. Not sure how it happened. We had mashed potatoes, swiss chard, and pork chops. The only thing it could have been was CC from the pork chops. They had not been injected with anything, so maybe someone who packed them had been in contact with something breaded at about the same time. I guess from now on I'll rinse all cuts of meat before cooking them. I keep a strictly GF kitchen, so the only thing it could have been was the pork.

Having a lot of fun experimenting with cooking. One thing I had really been craving lately were those things that are kind of like Twinkies, but are rolled in a raspberry coating and then coconut. They were always one of my favorite junk foods. I made them! I used a sponge cake recipe and made cupcakes. Then I squirted a copy-cat cream filling into them, frosted them with raspberry jam, and rolled them in coconut. They were soooo good. My NGF DH and weaving teacher agreed!

September has been a good month for me so far. I have been getting into making things like pizza crusts and bread. It's nice to start adding GF versions back into my diet to have a little more variety in what I eat.

Yay! I had a boatload of neurological problems (including peripheral neuropathy) that disappeared after going GF. I guess with all the EEGs, MRIs, and blood work I had done over the years, no one ever thought to check for Celiac.
