|
|
Hi all,
Well, I just weighed myself again after just over a month of my GF diet...and I've lost a little over five pounds from where I started my GF diet This, after losing 25 pounds due to the undiagnosed celiac disease.
Is this normal? If so, when will I start to gain weight again? |

Some people lose weight, some people gain weight. It really depends on your body and how it reacts to the GF diet. Have you tried seeing a nutritionist to make sure you're getting all the nutrients you need? _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

| Scooted this over to the Weight Control section. Maybe you'll find some more answers here. |

Is it possible that by avoiding foods with gluten in them, you are not taking in adequate calories? If you have cut out lots of different foods, it may be possible that you are not eating enough to maintain your weight. Can you give us an idea of what you are eating in a day? _________________ -Colleen

Hmm I don't know. Here's my basic diet (this is just a "basic get on track" diet, which will be refined and drastically expanded once I get the hang of things):
Breakfast: cereal (GF corn flake type of cereal) with skim milk
lunch:
toasted Kinnikinnick bread with ham, or some sort of beef (of course I make sure all beef and ham is GF).
dinner
potatoes, beef, fish, rice, chicken, and/or brown rice GF pasta
snacks
GF potato chips, GF pretzels
I usually just drink water, or maybe OJ at breakfast.
I was also eating the occasional pizza with Glutino GF pizza crusts, and was able to do that for a while, but recently I had two really bad reactions (awful diarrhea/pain, chills, followed by a week of painful stomach cramps), each time after having a couple of the 6" pizzas, so I stopped having them. I'm wondering if the cheese was a problem--maybe some lactose intolerance there? In any case I've put the cheese on hold for a while...haven't had any since at least 4 days ago.
The last two days I've felt incredibly, incredibly tired...couldn't even get out of bed yesterday, don't really feel like getting out of bed today. Even lying flat and limp, I still feel tired. Had a loooong sleep last night, and today still feel incredibly tired, and some mild neck achyness and headache. I don't think I'm coming down with a cold, but it's making me wonder if I'm deficient in some crucial vitamin that I'm missing. It's just weird, because I've been on the diet for over a month, and this is just hitting all of a sudden.
Also don't seem to be able to shake the stomach cramps (rarer, but still there every so often, particularly if I lean over on my left side), and the diarrhea/loose stool/occasional constipation. I don't know if I have diverticulosis or IBS or what. And still losing weight.
I have a doc appointment scheduled for 2 weeks from now (soonest I could get in)...it's going to be a long two weeks to wait |

I was feeling a bit tired and just started taking vitamin E , D and calcium and I feel alot better I have alot of energy. Sometimes I do not want to get out of bed because I just feel better and I am not use to waking up and feeling good so I just lay there and enjoy feeling good.
I used to have to sit up sleeping when I had a bad tummy reaction because all the acids would come up and burn my throat and make my eyes swollen and nose run. Before I found out what was wrong I had my tonsils takin out so if your throat is bothering you dont get em out it could just be gluten. I wish I never had to go through that it was awful I felt better for the 1st week when they took them out then when I could eat my throat and body was sick all over again.
Drs all my life thought I was nuts and would give me a prescription and the pharmacist would tell me they were just sugar pills that are usually given to people who think something is wrong but is not.
I have underactive thyroid and it is getting better I may get off the pills all together now that I am gluten free. Milk is a no no for me but frozen yogurt is a YES for me. Kathie |

Are you having problems with fruits and vegetables or you just didn't list them (or like them)? Depending on portions unless you are eating tons of the chips and pretzels you may not be eating enough, and if you are eating tons of them they're empty calories and could contribute to your tiredness. Raw nuts like almonds or pecans would be a better snack food.
On the other hand back when I was diagnosed and continued to loose weight the Dr. put me on prednisone for two weeks to jump start my system. I don't know if they still do that, but it worked for me. _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |
