I'm guessing my person was Torrey- also by return address. My gift was so great! I got a T-shirt from the restaurant Risotteria in NYC and on the back it says "No Flour Power"- it is so cute! Also included in my package were gravy and pasta sauce mixes. I have yet to try them- but they look really great. I have never seen that brand before so I'm assuming it is an east coast thing? Thanks!!!! |
Yup--you're right, Rachel! I hope you liked your gift! It's funny--I work 3 blocks from Risotteria, and I know the people there kind of well. I was explaining the SS thing, having not yet decided what I should get you, and they suggested I send you a t-shirt. As for those gravy/sauce mixes, I'm not sure if they're an east coast thing, but they're readily available in most of the larger Shop Rites and Wegmans around here.
ENJOY!  _________________ ~Torrey

OK a couple more names crossed off the list. My secret Santa is not making this easy... Is it Cardine?
I've got to tell you Cardine, I was taken aback when I saw your pics of you opening your SS gift. It was like looking at a photo of me when I was 18 or 19. Your hair is exactly the color mine was then, and you were wearing it just like I did then. I pulled up the pic of you and asked my husband to look at it, and he said, "That looks like you!" It looks just like a pic he has of me. Funny! I'll have to see if I can find one and post it. _________________ Steph |

Sorry, I didn't have you. I guess you'll have to keep on guessing, but at least you can cross me off your list.
I would so love to see that picture. It's not very often that I hear someone say that, and the few times I have, I've found out we were distantly related somehow. It doesn't surprise me that I look like you did when you were 18 or 19 though because I look the same as I did then, only maybe a little wiser (and I managed to get rid of the horrible bangs that I loved then.) I do have to say those were horrible pictures of me on Christmas. I was really really sick and doing my best to hide it, but I can tell looking at them that I wasn't well. |

"I've got a Santa in Kalamazoo-zoo-zoo-zoo". Since you're the only one from the board [that I know of] from Kalamazoo - I'm guessing it's you Caroline! Am I right?!!?
Sorry it's taken so long to get this out here.
Thanks soooooo much for the card and cake forms!! I love 'em. Peg said "Honey, I can make you bear buns now!" LOL!

| You are absolutely right Al. I knew you'd figure it out from the return address, but I was too afraid murphy's law would get me and it would get lost in the mail if I didn't put it on there. I thought those were too cute, and I'm half tempted to get some for myself. They're even red! |

Bah, sorry for joining the party late. We just got done with all the holiday festivities.
cardine45 - Your name is now on the list. Sorry about that.
Fifi - You guessed right! I was your SS. But you really need to thank Torrey. She sent me some of those cookies for my birthday. They were so good I had to pass them along. If anybody else is interested, the company is Sun Flour Baking Company. You can order their stuff from their website or Amazon.
And I'm gonna guess that my SS was....Al! Mostly because Amazon was a pain and didn't hide your address. But I looooove the cookbook! It sits right in front of all our other cookware. Haven't had a chance to try the thermometer yet (too busy to make candy) but I love it too. Thanks so much again! *long distance hug*
So does everybody like the GF SS idea? Would you be interested in doing it again next year? It can certainly be tweaked if anybody has any suggestions. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Hmmm, it said they would hide the address. I think there was a checkbox for that or something. Besides, that I think I included a note [was that in there?] that I may have "signed".
Os - the therm is not only a candy therm, it's also a deep fry therm...as in deep frying a turkey for T'giving - so it doesn't have to be so dry
Glad you liked them! _________________ Al

Os- was the cookbook Al gave you Carol Fenster's new one? When you said it was the huge, I figured it must be. I tried the recipe for runzas from that book and they were really good!
I think some of our Secret Santas are MIA which is making it even harder for me to figure this out!
And yes, a big 2 thumbs up for doing this again! I've had a blast! Hope everyone else has. _________________ Steph |

You don't have to be sorry. I think I made it very obvious that I was part of it, and Al has always know I'm from Kalamazoo, so I doubt it hurt his chances of figuring it out either.

I loved this whole thing. I'm sure there will be years I don't have as much time to pay attention and I'll figure out my person by default because everyone else has figured theirs out, but it's still fun. The money limit is perfect so that just about everyone should be able to participate if they want to. It might be fun to add in a few clues that we send ahead of time, and if only there was a way to not have to list a return address so that didn't give it away either... |

That's the cookbook! Runzas are on pp. 124-125. I'd never had them before and they were really good. They were great as left-overs too, although DH loved them so much I didn't think there were going to be left-overs! I'm going to use the pastry part to make a GF version of a stuffed bread recipe I developed when I worked at a HFS. It became a family favorite, but would not work with GF bread doughs. They were a ham and honey mustard stuffed bread with chopped apples, onions, and cheddar cheese along with the ham, and honey mustard. _________________ Steph |

My mom makes a really good NGF spinach roll. I wonder if the Runza crust would work. Thanks!
cardine45 - I still feel bad for leaving you off the list. I like the idea that, even if you're strapped for cash/time, you can always send a nice card. I was worried people wouldn't be able to find much stuff within the price limit, but it didn't seem to be a problem. As far as Amazon goes, I think they have to list a return address, even if they don't print the price. I don't ever remember getting something from them that didn't have a return address. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={
