Over the week prior to 4th of July, and during 4th of July holiday, I tried that Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Flour, I made muffins with it, and then I used it in a cheesecake recipe. I used some of the muffins, crumbled up and dry fried in a frying pan, in place of graham cracker crust.
As far as I know I was eating gluten free. But, after eating the muffins and the cheesecake I had terrible eczema, and arthritis pain. It's hard for me to tell if it was that absolutely, because I had a few vodka sodas, thinking I was safe with vodka. Not! come to find out practically all our vodka is made from grain, not potatoes. What a rip!!
So, I looked at the ingredients again on the flour package, and it said it had sorghum flour in it. Sorghum is a grain, but it is supposed to be gluten free, isn't it?
At one point in time, I was trying a vegetarian diet for the RA, and I tried quinoa 3 times and every time I got violently sick "from both ends" in 1-1/2 hours after eating the quinoa. I threw the quinoa out thinking it had gone bad.
So, even if a grain is "gluten-free" it seems to be able to cause me problems. Is it possible with sorghum flour?

Sorghum is gluten free.
Vodka from grain sources is generally considered to be gluten free as well.
Perhaps you were allergic to the quinoa...

Hi Marilyn,

Welcome to the board!!

I have a friend whose children had cases of ezcema - when they removed dairy- it went away. I wonder if that might be your problem?

Most likely your Vodka was distilled. The current line of thought is that anything that is distilled will be GF. If you want to read more check out this link and scroll down till you find my post.: http://www.celiacforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36&highlight=distilled

Smirnoff vodka is made from corn.

Did you buy your sorghum or quinoa in bulk? It may be possible that it was contaminated. This can happen if someone uses the GF flour scoop for wheat flour and then puts it back in the GF flour bin.

It maybe possible you have multiple food intolerances. It's not uncommon for people to react to rice, corn and othe grains.

Hi. I saw on one of the many lists that the only 'safe' Vodka was potato Vodka. It actually says that on the label. Was that wrong?

Ann: I saw that potatoe vodka was ok and I saw the list of different vodkas but this brand is from Russia so I was thinking that they may use something different. I know the list says most alcohols won't hurt us but I don't want to take a chance that it will hurt me. .............Nikki

Hi Ann,

We can drink vodka(alcohol) that is made from any grain that has been distilled AND that does not have any gluten added after the distillation process.

I went and bought a bottle of Stoli to see what it says on it and it is 100% grain alcohol, distilled in Russia so I guess that's OK. Thanks guys.....Nikki

A little late,
but,
My husband cannot eat quinoa. We have tried different brands, different quantities, etc., but he just cannot eat it.
I read an alarming article (will track it down this next week), that some study stated that a large percentage of processed foods labelled gf actually contain gluten. This is very upsetting.
Maybe ax the dairy and quinoa and try the Bob's Red Mill again?
