I guess I will wait and see how the tests come back. For the moment, her stomachaches are better. Not sure if this is due to
1)lactose-free,
2)the intermittent nature of her problem,
3)psycho-somatic factors (she really seemed determined that before her appt, going to the doctor would fix her stomachaches),
or some combo of the above.
If they continue in the face of negative bloodwork, I'm not going to take just "IBS" as a diagnosis. I'll definitely consider the advice to visit a gastro doc. I don't know how easy it will be to find someone willing to do endoscopy, considering I'm not actually a diagnosed celiac.
Another option is just to try gf with her. The problem with that is my IL's - all the grief I have had over my "unnecessarily restrictive and unhealthy food choices," never mind the fact that MIL is constantly trying to give our kids sugar when we ask her to respect our limits (so what makes me think she won't sneak wheat behind our backs?).
Thanks for the advice,
