Hello,
I've been on the GF diet since Jan 06. My kids (DD 6 and DS 5) since Aug 06. I was a member of one of the other forums, but I just can't deal there anymore.
I was looking through my old bookmarks to find what's going on on the other forums and re-found this forum. I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody.

Hi Nancy,
I am here because of the other forum too (and Al's invitation to give this one a try). I read your recent "rant" there and I agreed with you 100%! As far as I am concerned there are three or four people on that forum who ruin it for everyone else and often perpetuate their own beliefs as truth and jump on anyone else who disagrees. I pretty much just read there or stick to safe topics now.
This forum is much more enjoyable and open to discussion and the folks here have a sense of humor. Enjoy!

Hi, Nancy. I'm glad you piped up. I dislike that forum too, and every time I go there, I wonder why. I think you will find that this forum is a lot more relaxed. We do have our dust-ups from time to time, but we discuss and then have a group hug and some GF pizza.
Looking forward to hearing from you. _________________ -Colleen

I left that forum a long time ago too- I just couldn't take it anymore. So I now only stick with this one. It's a much happier place!

I read your rant, too.
While there are still many helpful people over there, I can't begin to count how many times I have started to post a response to something and then thought maybe I shouldn't because I didn't want to stir up another hornet's nest.
I found this forum quite by accident but I like it here. It's much closer knit. They notice if you are missing and they even drew names at Christmas! I almost fell off my chair when I realized that!
I still read "over there" almost daily, but seldom post anymore.

I think it would be this forum.
Hey Nantzie - welcome! Did you used to post here before? I seem to remember a Nantzie from somewhere else...Braintalk maybe?
Laurie's right - we like to discuss and have some fun too! We're not perfect, but there's generally not much drama going on. _________________ Al

Isn't that where 'one of my biggest fans' went when she left here?
You're right, Al. So long as we stay away from religious topics and I stay on my meds things are pretty peaceful here. |

Hi Nancy,
I too have had several run-ins on that forum, had Posts Deleted, Warnings, not because anything was offensive.
.
My first blow up was when I said you cannot be glutened by 'Topical Preparations',
you may have a skin reaction, but not necessairly from Wheat.
.
Gluten needs to be ingested and unless someone is going to eat several Lipsticks etc (it ain't going happen)
they didn't take to kindly to that.
.
It was a 'Major' issue, pun intended!
.
Last episode (where my post was deleted)
was when I tried to tell people about a helpful Blog I started
The Gluten Free Video Cookbook.
.
I was told self promotion is not allowed.
.
Anyway my rant aside, it's much more relaxed here.
I added the links to the 'Footer' in my posts here and I haven't been slapped across the Knuckles!
.
I post on most forums, US, Australia, Irish and UK.
.
Welcome to the 'Kick off your shoes and do your thing' Forum.
.
Best Regards,

Ahhhh... so it's partially a medication issue.... Yes, please take your meds in a timely fashion _________________ Al

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody. It's funny how some of you read my (now deleted) rant. It really shows how sad the situation is. Soo many wonderful people read those boards and lurk or post occasionally, but that's it. A few of the old regulars there popped up with their support on email. One of them put it best by saying that she was on her last warning or she would have posted publicly. I really feel bad for the new people, but for my own sanity and blood pressure it's not worth it.
I had actually thought about taking the time to build a case against the person I was trying not to single out, but I got the feeling that other people had tried to do this but were either unsuccessful or weren't able to build a good enough case. I'm still thinking about it, but I'm not sure the outcome would change anything. I just hate to see all the resources, archives, etc. to be "contaminated" by all that garbage. Very sad..
Anyway....
I'm actually relatively sensitive and react to some things that most don't react to. I don't feel I'm super sensitive. I can still eat most processed mainstream GF foods (Corn Chex OMG!!) , but I do react to topical preparations (hi Daveyboy!) like shampoo. Mostly because I'm enough of a total girl and can't seem to keep my hands out of my hair, then my hands touch the food and I'm sunk. I'm enough NOT a total girl to choose to have hair that looks less than perfect so I don't get sick. I'd rather feel good than look good. I really tried to be able to use gluten containing topical products, but it just wasn't in the cards for me.
I have been around the gluten free world for a few years. I've probably posted at least once or twice on many of the other boards, including Braintalk. I also registered here back in late 06 and lurked quite a bit for a while, but only posted a couple of times.
I always remembered this as a friendly place and I'm sooo glad to see it hasn't changed.

Hi Nancy,
Welcome to the board. Indeed, a happier place than "over there". _________________ Nance

Wow, I am soooo happy now when I see those comments about the 'other forum'. I stopped going there after about one day...I just did not like it...and found some porn there too...I don't know if it was just me, with my luck
Well, all that worked for me, though...I like this forum, I feel welcomed here.
So, welcome too, Nancy |

hmmm...maybe I need to spend more time there after all...LOL!!
I don't know how they filter out the spammers there, but we have some pretty good spam filters here. It didn't used to be that way until we got hacked - big time! _________________ Al
