I think NE has a different definition of hypermiling than the rest of the world. Around here, hypermiling = drive it like it's made out of glass. Usually 10-15mph below the speed limit, and braking 20-ish car lengths before a red light. Bonus points for driving in the left lane. Extra bonus points for doing it during rush hour.

I think you might be confusing hypermilers with bad drivers.

This hypermiler:
1. does everything in her power NOT to break. I attempt to predict the lights and plan when I will come to a rolling stop. Braking wastes gas!
2. only drives in the fast lane when going fast!
3. drive the speed limit.
4. shuts off her car when I expect to sit (at a light, train, intersection) for 10 or more seconds. Damn thing about my car is that it doesn't have a key and the @#$#@$ start button is too slow!

I'm pretty sure you would hate being behind me when a light turns green! LOL! Also, once I've turned into my neighborhood. I roll all the way home...which is about a mile! Thank goodness the speed limit is 20MPH.

My car gets 37 in town and I don't hypermile. Of course down here we don't use that term, we call them SNOWBIRDS and can't wait for them to migrate back north for the summer. Wink Wink

What are you driving? Wish my new Altima got that. I'd be in the 40s with hypermiling!

06 Jetta TDI (Diesel) I average about 36-38 around town, I have a lead foot but most of my daily driving is backroads, I do have nitro-fill for the tires and it improved the mileage 1-2 mpg. I am supposed to get around 50 on the highway but have never used a full tank on highway so I can't swear to that.

During the oil crunch in the 70's, I bought a VW Dasher Diesel. I also got about 37 mpg in town. Highway mpg was around 47. The best stretch I got from her was 52 mpg. So, don't be surprised at the great mileage you'll get from your Jetta diesel once you take it on the open road.

LOL! Actually, this is all I really ask when I'm driving. As long as you're going at least the speed limit (assuming good weather) and not driving like an idiot, I'm OK. Smile

Is it strange that I'm jealous of your start button? I've always wanted a car with a start button. <3

One of my pet peeves is people who want to dwell in a self-made misery and expect me to perpetually commiserate with them. Especially certain women I know who treat their husbands like trash and expect there to be no repercussions in the relationship from their behavior. Then after years and years of the same garbage, husband has all he cahn take and leaves and the woman cries the blues and does the "all men are scum" thing.

Not all men are scum. Some women are scum. I get sick of hearing men are abusive, but nobody says anything about the women who are the nasty, rotten ones. I grew up with one, so I know they are out there.

Agreed. Just like not all guy logic is logical. When you're sick you have two choices: go to the doc/take meds/make a proactive choice to get better, or suck it up. If you chose option B you lose b****ing rights.

if you're friends with me on facebook, you can find out my situation there.

Hoo boy....more like is there anything that doesn't frustrate me right now??

Whenever my husband is in charge of the kids, he totally loses track of time and forgets to feed them (That's pretty basic, honey. Feed the damn kids). Then he can't understand why they're melting down.

Sophie (my 7-year-old) will gladly sit down and do homework with my MIL, but all he** breaks loose when I'm the one to sit down with her. I'm the at-home parent, BTW, so it's almost ALWAYS me....

I missed my rhuematologist appointment today, even though I looked at my appointment book three times beforehand so I wouldn't forget. Now I have to try to get another appointment before November (the next available appointment) so I can get some meds and stop the freakin' pain.

I got lost today going from my son's school to my MIL's house to pick up my daughter, and I've lived in this town for almost 10 years. How could I possibly get THAT confused?? My husband says I just have too much going on, and don't sleep enough. It might be easier to sleep if I had some arthritis meds.....

Oh, and I'm gonna fess up to being one of those aisle-blockers at the supermarket. If I park Gus anywhere near the side, he'll empty the shelf in about 4.3 milliseconds. I find apologizing for blocking traffic preferable to cleaning up 60 boxes and cans from the floor! Shocked

I was terribly frustrated by not having a computer (kiddo spilled a latte in the last one) but as of yesterday I have a new one to use and I'm happy as a clam!

BTW G-Mama's... I hear ya. Same said child also knocked a jar of pickles off the grocery shelf last weekend. It exploded in a shower of vinegar, pickles and glass. It's hard to keep those little busy hands occupied sometimes. Shocked I felt so bad but they grocery guy seemed so blase about it.

Don't get too frustrated by this. I had the same issue with my parents. Mom was the stay-at-home parent, but for some reason it was easier to sit down with my dad. We're on the same wave length I guess.

Approve Sativex already. Or I have to move to Oregon to get pain control for my neuropathy. Guess I'll see y'all at a support group meeting soon. (Goes back to apartment hunting...)

I've got nothing on that. Sad Hope you can get what you need soon.

My car needs a new transmission oil cooler (temporarily bypassed) and AC condenser. I've been driving around all summer without AC and it's getting really annoying.
