Ok, sorry that I haven't updated!! Anyway, 5 weeks now and we see a big difference in my son! Yay! He has so much more energy, pays more attention to what is going on around him, has a better attitude, is excited to participate in phsycial activities (5 mile hike was great!), isn't as much glued to video games, actually eats real meals instead of a little piece of something and walking away, has no more headaches, no more gi issues that I'm aware of, and made it through 11 innings of a major league baseball game and enjoyed it! His OT and speech teacher actually called me up to tell me how much of a difference they noticed in him last week. The only person who insists that there is no difference is his 1st grade teacher. What does she know!
Anyway, it took a good 3 weeks + before we were sure that we noticed anything. I was really happy when dh concurred with my thoughts about some of the changes I was noticing. I was afraid that I was just wanting to see a change, but it is real! Yay again!
I called his pediatrician and he agreed with me that we should just leave him on the gf diet until he sees the gastro in July. I know that I'm probably destroying the chances of him being officially diagnosed with cd, if he even has full-blown cd as opposed to gluten sensitivity, but I just can't give him gluten containing foods now that I see how good he is. I guess I'll have to cross that bridge/ make that decision after seing the gastro, but I have a reprieve for now!
Thanks everyone for listening and your help! |

Thanks Beckyhiker - I was wondering how it was going for you. I was looking for inspiration. My son's progress on GF has not been enormous but it has just been three weeks. There has been some improvement: fewer meltdowns, definitely more energy for exercise and a bit less OC. His echolalia has been high for a couple of days though and kind of hard on me if we stay home all day... Glad to hear your son is eating real meals too. About when did that start? I am just looking for a ray of hope on that subject.
Thanks! _________________ son - high ttg - 4/09, pos. biopsy 5/09

| Hi smalltownslackermom! I'm glad that your son is at least doing somewhat better! I think that the 1st thing that I really noticed in Max was that he was eating his entire dinner and that started right at the end of three weeks and into the start of the 4th week. It was my 1st clue that something was different as he did this 3 nights in a row and it has mostly continued with a couple exceptions for meals he didn't like. The other changes in him started to occur around the same time. He still has some issues, like being unreasonable about silly things (but maybe that is just being a 7 year old, it's too hard for me to tell anymore) and they tell me that he still doesn't want to have anything to do with gym class at school, but I am happy with the progress that I have seen here at home and I think that he might be sick of his current school environment (he'll be going to the town school next year). Good luck and keep posting his progress! |
