gingerfreelemongirl who has a GF blog swears by the butter-flavored crisco and warns that if you use anything else you best refrigerate the dough for at least several hours. I did not and had pans of blech! Food guru Alton Brown also has a GF choc chip cookie recipe and that one has to be refrigerated overnight I think, or at least many hours. And the old rule of thumb I used for choc chip cookies was: for cakey cookies, cold butter; for flat cookies (my fave) melted butter; and somewhere in between cookies? get the butter to a room temp but not melted. _________________ son - high ttg - 4/09, pos. biopsy 5/09

I made the devils food cake tonight, and it was delicious. It definitely gets 2 thumbs up. I'll try to post pictures later this weekend, but they didn't turn out great because I was in such a hurry to eat it, I didn't take time to get good shots.
Isto, I'm so jealous that you have them already. I checked the grocery store tonight, but we still don't have them. We need to get them in by time I finish this cake or I'm going to be sad |

I've been looking too- but I haven't seen anything yet either. I'm curious about the cake mixes...can't wait to try them. _________________ Rachel |

| Our Giant Eagle doesn't have a gluten free section. Everything is just tossed together. |

I just found them the other day...I bought the cookie mix and the brownie mix...now, I have to buy eggs and butter because I never have either one of those in the house!

Torrey, you answered my question with your photo...they're sold in the regular cake aisle. Now I know what they charge where you are so I'll have to see what they cost when they get them here. Thank you!! _________________ Mike |

You're welcome, Mike!
That was in my local A&P, which tends to have *slightly* higher prices than Shop Rite or Stop & Shop. I checked both Shop Rite and Stop & Shop, but didn't see the mixes there yet.
And yes, I took the picture with my phone--I was so excited to see those items in the store!!!

I found the cookies at my local Ralphs for $4.49. They didn't have any of the other items. I'm hoping WalMart will carry them! _________________ Sandi ~ learning to live in a world obsessed and infested with wheat.

They haven't shown up around the Chicago area yet as far as I know. I have asked a couple of times at my local Jewel, but no luck. I was hoping that they would be mixed in with the "regular" BC mixes, but when I mentioned it to the clerk, he was **sure** that they would be in the "health food" section where the products that I want to buy are discontinued faster than I can blink my eye! I am still checking both places, though.

| I keep looking at every store I go to, but I haven't seen them yet. I'm checking the gluten-free section and the regular cake mix section each time. I hope they show up soon! |

DH has been checking our local Walmart too. No luck yet. And yes, I believe they'll be in the cake/baking aisle. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

They now have them at Wegmans in upstate NY and I can safely say that it's 30 cents cheaper to live here than in NJ. _________________ Mike |
