|

My blood panel came back negative.
My wife and I are considering a two-week GF test, just to see if it makes a difference anyway.
We'd heard we would have to replace all of our cookware to go GF, because microscopic gluten could remain in scratches in pots, pans, plates, etc.
Is this true? |

Just scrub the stainless pots well and don't use the teflon pans for 2 weeks. It's scratches in teflon and the inability to scrub them that created problems. _________________ Lauren

I don't think you'd have to outright replace everything either. Clean everything really well that is metal, and be very careful not to use anything teflon, plastic, or wood.
I don't know that 2 weeks is long enough to give you real answers as some people notice a difference after a few days, and others start feeling worse at first, and then get better after a few months. It's definitely worth a shot though.
I would recommend doing a lot of research ahead of time, or just keep it really simple (meats, fruits, and veggies) for the 2 weeks to be sure you're not getting any hidden gluten.
Good luck with this. |

GJ,
Glad to see you're considering a GF trial. 2 weeks may or may not be enough time to notice a difference. It depends on the person. Often times it can take that long just figure out what's GF and what's not GF.
You also might want to do a few cycles of "off gluten/on gluten" to see how you feel. This way you might be able to see a pattern. My trial lasted about 3-4 months - going off/on gluten for periods of time.
If you haven't seen this, check out our thread: Gluten Free Diet Boot Camp. There's lots of info on how to start out.
Good luck! _________________ Al

It's the scratched teflon, porous pans like cast iron, toasters, colanders,
cutting boards and wood cooking spoons that you need to be careful of.
If you just don't use those for two weeks and wash the rest with a
NEW sponge or dishrag and gluten free dish soap (palmolive) you
will do fine. _________________ Gluten, Casein, Egg, Yeast and Soy Free
