|
|
Ok.. So Doc ordered the DQ2 & DQ8. In addition, I asked her to add the DQ1 to that. Here are the results as explained to me by Matthew's Pediatrician....
The DQ1 was split into two... DQ5 & DQ6 (I didn't know this..)
The DQ5 was Negitive
The DQ6 was Positive The doctor and the GI doctor she spoke with (whom Matthew has seen a couple of times) disregarded these findings. As they are unreliable according to them.
Ok.. The DQ8 Came back Negative.
The DQ2 came back positive. To this, the GI doc said that this could also be positive in about 35% of normal healthy people whom do not have Celiac.
He (the GI doc) feels the ONLY way to be sure if Matthew does infact have Celiac disease is to do a Gluten challenge for 4 months, redo an Endoscopy and see if there is any damage.
Just seeing what a couple of bowls of a NON GF cereal does to my baby. I WILL NOT put him through such cruelty.
Thankfully, my husband agrees with me, or a divorce would be on the table for discussion!!
We are going to keep Matthew on a strict GF diet, and maybe, just maybe will consider testing it in a very SMALL way every year or two. Again, the chances of doing even that are very slim!!!
I will continue doing what I know is in Matthew's best interest, and that is staying GF! If family and friends don't support that... they aren't putting Matthew's health first, and don't have right to have a say in the matter!
I apologize for turning this into a bit of a rant. |

Good for you, Kristie. Ultimately, you know what's best for your son and if keeping him gluten free makes him feel good, then go for it! _________________ Judy

Kristie - just wanted to chime in here - I have DQ6 and then DQ9 which is DQ3, subtype 9, so neither Celiac gene but definitely symptoms of all kinds. I'm thinking of going to an gastroenterologist because of some weird stomach stuff lately but I will not for any amount of money go back on gluten, not even for a day. To feel that bad is not worth it!
Good luck! _________________ Stephanie |

Kristie,
Add me to the list too! You are doing the right thing! Keep it up!
I do give the doc a little credit for at least checking for DQ1. That is not seen as a CD gene - like Jeannine said.
Also glad there will be NO divorces either! _________________ Al

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support! It means alot to me.
One thing I forgot to mention in my 1st rant Is in addition to the Genetic testing, His Pediatrician also redid a R.A.S.T. Blood test on Matthew, He has in the past tested Positive for Dairy, (never Wheat with the blood, but did test positive last year for wheat on Skin testing) Anywho.... he's tested Negative for BOTH wheat and Dairy on blood test this time.
I have been debating trying dairy again, but am still talking it over with Hubby. We'll decide together.
Matthew has never seemed to be *as* sensitive to Dairy as Gluten. However, there have been solid times he's reacted to Casien.. So I'm not sure where that leaves us now.
Oh and Al.. I'm glad there isn't going to be a divorce also!
God Bless,

Hi kristie,
I just wanted to let you know that about two years ago my oldest was diagnosed with CD. Then I knew my other two had it, but no there blood work and biopsy were both negative. SO then we gene tested them all and all three had the DQ2 gene. So i decided to make all three GF. What a difference. Both my husband and myself are glad we did that. So go with youe gut feeling and keep him GF. BETTYSUE |
