I suggest keep your pans and invest in a very strong and hot dishwaher. Sears make a series called the elite and it is great but it will cost you upwards of a $1000.....

SO according to the pdf from Al, gluten is alcohol soluble.
Does this mean I could buy a bunch of rubbing alcohol and soak some of the pans/pots that I am keeping?
and would alcohol damage teflon/non-sticks?
doh. just answered my own questions.
Alcohol should never be used on aluminum cookware or on non-stick cookware...

I personally don't live quite that extreme, I make frozen pizzas almost daily for the DGS, its all he'll eat. I can cook mac and cheese for DS's and I have been known to make sandwiches as well. I absolutely don't do baking where non-gf flour dust is an issue and no one in the house does either more than a couple of times a year, we make most all baked goods gluten free. I am just extremely careful about washing my hands and all surfaces after making items with gluten in them and I don't cook non-gf food in pans that we use for GF, we have a couple of old pots and we keep a good teflon frying pan for the non-gf foods, along with a couple of baking sheets. I also have taught the GS and DH and DS's to wash their hands after eating.

LucyGoose, some celiacs have a topical reaction as well and it might not be good for them to come into contact with gluten. Those folks should avoid touching gluten when at all possible.

However there are plenty of us that live in mixed NGF/GF households. I personally made six sandwiches today with wheat bread (for my daughters preschool class) and I'm just fine. Wink I do have my limits though. While I feel plenty comfortable handling bread and dealing with crumbs which can be contained/washed/wiped away easily enough, I will not allow gluten containing flour into my kitchen. It's too hard to control. It can remain airborne and land on any number of surfaces that I may or may not be aware of. There will always be certain levels of risk depending on how sensitive you are to gluten and how well you clean...

Boy, it is just all so amazing that some can't touch it.....I know my mom bakes......just doesn't eat it.....I now wonder if she knows how sensitive she is for real? She is 73 and does really good.....I go to my doc today.....I still have not told her.....I will once I get done today.....I hope I don't have to NOT let flour in the house.......we will see.......I continue to read and learn.....I hope I am one that can make DH his sandwiches......

Thanks again! Very Happy
