Evidently people don't ignore me and my GF ramblings on Facebook. Wink A high school classmate sent me this link. She said the guy creating this was student of hers 10 years ago. Evidently, he's going to be pitching this on Shark Tank. I haven't confirmed it, but she thinks it's going to be on 9/29/09.

Here's an article on the creator of Soy-Yer Dough

http://gcdailyworld.com/story/1573569.html

Quote:
Soy-Yer Dough, the first and only patented wheat-free modeling dough, was inspired by one of Sparks' favorite Purdue professors and her daughter, who both suffer from Celiac disease, a wheat allergy.

Sparks revealed that his new modeling dough compound was actually the result of a beer making project that surfaced when one of his professors at Purdue told him that she couldn't drink beer because an intolerance to wheat gluten. It was also the result of an effort to find a modeling compound that the professor's daughter could enjoy.

As a result Sparks and two college buddies began to experiment to see if they could make a gluten-free beer for their lager deprived professor.

More stories about Sawyer...

It was pretty cool to hear Celiac Disease discussed on the TV show, albeit briefly.

Sparks elated about outcome of Shark Tank

http://glutenfreeandbeyond.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3727

Quote:
Rural Bloomfield resident Sawyer Sparks pitched his new soybean-based molding product to five potential investors Tuesday night before a national television audience on the ABC reality series "Shark Tank."
The 22-year-old Purdue University agriculture student came away with a $300,000 deal -- $100,000 each from three of the "Sharks" -- and with the belief that his efforts will end up with new jobs for some of his fellow Greene Countians.

Sparks was successful in negotiating a deal on the weekly TV show that called for the investors to take 51 percent control of his patented molding product called Soy-Yer-Dough.

After the show Sparks was elated with the way things turned out, but admitted that the finale negotiating part of the show was pretty intense and nerve-wracking.

Sawyer was filmed in the episode in Los Angeles that aired Tuesday night back in early August, but was prevented because of contract limitations from publicly discussing the show's outcome with anyone -- even his family and friends.

However, behind-the-scenes work is already under way to secure property somewhere in Greene County -- near Bloomfield -- to construct a manufacturing facility, Sparks told the Greene County Daily World in a telephone interview late Tuesday night.

Locals proud of Sparks remembering his roots

Bloomfield's talking about one of its natives and many have positive words for Sawyer Sparks.

Sparks successfully pitched his soy-based molding dough product and got a deal in the ABC television network show "Shark Tank" that aired Tuesday night.

During the show, Sparks clung to his roots and was adamant about bringing jobs to his hometown.

Part of his pitch was to open a manufacturing facility in Greene County for his soy-based dough product.

Eric Harrah, owner of Bloomfield Manufacturing, shared his thoughts on Sparks' "Shark Tank" appearance.

"It makes me proud as can be that someone thinks as much of Bloomfield as what I feel I do," Harrah explained. "I think he handled himself tremendously. ... How sincere he was about his hometown was a good thing to see. You just don't see that enough."

Sawyer Sparks lands big deal on TV show

Quote:
Bloomfield native Sawyer Sparks successfully pitched his soy-based molding dough product and got a deal in the ABC television network show "Shark Tank" that aired Tuesday night.

Sparks, a senior in the Purdue University School of Agriculture at West Lafayette, settled for a $300,000 deal -- $100,000 each from three of the show's five "sharks investors" for a 51 percent interest in his product -- Soy-Yer-Dough.

Earlier, he had turned down an offer of $125,000 for 51 percent of his company and later balked at a deal of $125,000 for 40 percent interest.

He came to the show seeking a $125,000 investment for 25 percent interest in his company.

Sparks revealed on the show that a major competitor in the modeling dough business had offered him $500,000 for his product, but he declined because he wanted to retain some ownership.

After taking the TV deal, Sparks, a 2005 Bloomfield Junior-Senior High School graduate, said, "We're going to make a lot of dough with this product."

A special thanks to Mrs. Lund - Saywer's Elementary School Guidance Counselor - for passing Sawyer's story on to me.
