As a celiac,I have suffered for many years with chronic constipation - Several years ago, my gastrointerologist recommended that Metamucil capsules be taken on a daily basis in addition to a high fiber diet - Recently, I read the ingredients in Metamucil - It contains caramel - Metamucil does not state that it is gluten free and caramel may contain gluten -
DO NOT USE METAMUCIL
Instead, purchase SOLGAR PSYLLIUM HUSKS FIBER 500 mg capsules which are free of wheat, corn, yeast and soy - They can be found in any health food store or drug store -
I felt much better within 3 days after replacing Metamucil with the Solgar Psyllium Husk capsules-
I would not be surprised if Metamucil is found to contain gluten[/u][/b] |

| Quote: | | Caramel color is almost always made from corn, but it can be made from malt syrup. However, in more than 10 years, we have not been able to find a single instance of a caramel color produced this way. Companies in North America say they use corn. You can consider caramel color GF. |
From the book titled "Gluten Free Diet" by Shelley Case:
| Quote: | | Although gluten-containing ingredients (barley malt syrup and starch hydrolsates) can be used in the production of caramel color, North American companies use corn as it has a longer shelf life and makes a superior product. European companies use glucose syrup derived from wheat starch, however caramel color is highly processed and contains no gluten. |
