I have concerns about cross-contamination from these flours. Brands are Deep, Swad, and a variety of others. Some specifically have the "Manufactured on equipment that processes wheat..." etc... There's tapioca flour, rice flour, urad (light lentil) besan (gram, garbanzo), Jawar (sorghum), plantain, yam, potato, rajgeera (amaranth) and probably more.
I would like to hear from others regarding their experiences with these - positive and negative. It sure helps the budget if they can be used with no ramifications. _________________ son - high ttg - 4/09, pos. biopsy 5/09

Personally I do purchase from the Asian markets. I grind my own flour from their rice.
I buy the tapioca and potato starch, but it doesn't say they use the same lines that process wheat. If I see that, I usually do not even take a chance. MrP is such a canary in the mines type person, that we do not risk any problems from shared lines. _________________

I think the climate is not conducive to good wheat production. | Excellent news. I did buy some tapioca flour at an Asian markets a month or two ago and have used it somewhat. I felt ok about it but not the sorghum I bought at an Indian Market. I have some teff also I bought a long time ago and wonder about it, I'll check where it was manufctr'd etc... _________________ son - high ttg - 4/09, pos. biopsy 5/09

I have purchased many flours from the Asian and Indian markets and never had a problem. I don't know what brand, though. There were no warnings on them. It was much cheaper at these markets than through the gluten-free flour companies.
Try to research and be very careful! |
