| hi there, I have been tested for CD over the past year, and the specialist has told me that I do not have it, as I do not have the gene. He did not feel it was necessary to go any further with testing after the gene test. However, I do react to gluten, (and possibly other things too) and he feels it could be IBS. I have just recently started to get the odd red itchy spot, not unlike an insect bite, with a bubble or blister looking centre. They are itchy and take quite a few days to go away. They are not in clusters, like most images on the internet of DH, so I want to know if the spots can appear as one or two at a time. At the moment, I have three on one leg, two on the other, and the remnants of two or three on my arms. I also had an itchy face today, which looked like mozzie bites, and then went down to normal skin colour, but still itchy and a small lump. Can anyone suggest what this might be? Could this be diet related? The spots do not really 'burn' as some people mention, but do tingle for a while after I scratch them. Any advice would be appreciated... thanks |

You were tested, and have the wrong genes, could you be gluten intolerant? Absolutely. If you already know gluten is a problem, then go gluten free. I too, have the wrong genes, yet I am a super sensitive, and gluten is definitely my enemy.
Gluten intolerance is just as damaging, and just as serious as celiac. Try googling: non celiac gluten intolerance.
I get a rash on my lower tummy. It usually starts on both sides, then meets in the middle. It gets very red, then, then the skin peels off, like a sunburn. I have a peppermint cream from Ladybug Blessings that works very well for me. I know this always happens when I get some sort of gluten CC. _________________ You can't discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore! |

Hi Deb,
thanks for the reply. I think I am definitely gluten intolerant. It makes sense with the symptoms I have when I do eat it. I am also thinking I might have a thyroid problem, as I am always tired, and horrors, gaining weight despite exercising 4 days a week, and eating well. I am looking for a doctor that is more sympathetic, and has more experience in digestive disorders, and would like to have the thyroid tested. I also want to find a good dermatologist to be referred to. Any suggestions for central Victoria, Australia would be appreciated.
thanks again. |

I know the info I'm looking for has been posted on the board sometime in the past two years, but a search is not locating it for me. Anyway, the article I'm looking for cited the fact that eight new genes had recently been implicated with the manifestation of DH. There is a small percentage of people who do indeed have CD in spite of not having the commonly recognized genes for it. I'll keep digging to see if I can find the quote. _________________ Steph |

Itchy with blisters could be DH. You could have a skin biopsy done. They should also biopsy the skin right adjacent to the blister. That might give you an answer too. _________________ Rachel |
