Greetings from Spain!

I´m planning to go to Boston with my wife and my 3 yrs old son (both are celiacs) for next week.
Surfing the web I´ve found that is a great GF city to visit and there are a lot of restaurants with GF menus (PF Chang, Burton's, Nebo, Legal Seafood...).

Does anybody know any other places to eat? BTW, is Whole Foods a safe place to buy in? (GF bakery and other products)

Thanks in advance.

Hi DrWong,

Welcome to the board! Wow, Spain! Great!

Sounds like you've got a great trip planned. Whole Foods is a good place to purchase GF items. Just a warning - it can be a bit expensive. It's often referred as "Whole Paycheck" Wink Each store has a list of GF products. So, you know what Whole Foods is closest to your hotel room, you can check that store's list of GF foods.

We've got some members here that are familiar with the Boston area, perhaps they'll be stopping by and offer up some other suggestions.

Here's to a safe and fun trip!! Please don't be afraid to ask more questions if you have them!

Here are some more resources for your trip:

http://www.healthyvilli.com/ - A support group in Boston Area. If you don't see something specific on their website, contact them. Most support groups are more than willing to help out travelers.

http://www.childrenshospital.org/clinicalservices/Site2166/mainpageS2166P0.html - Another support group.

http://bostonceliac.com/ - a list of GF friendly restaurants in Boston.

http://forums.glutenfree.com/topic6888.html - Reading Food Labels. I'm not sure what the labeling laws are in Spain, but here in the US, it can be a bit confusing. It might help to know how to read those things. Wink

I'm curious what it's like to be GF in Spain. Are restaurants knowledgeable about it? When shopping for food, is it easy to determine if a food is gluten-free?

Greetings again from Spain!!

We came back 3 days ago and we're still suffering jet-lag effects...

First of all... I LOVE BOSTON!!! We lived there two years ago and we are trying to go once a year, but this year was totally different because of the Celiac Disease (that's what I thought).

Each year we take advantage of the dollar exchange vs euro and use to go to outlets. This year instead of clothing we bought GF food!!
Whole Foods is awesome. My son is really delighted with all the breakfast cereal, the cereal bars, cookies... Even we tried GF pasta (elbows for mac and cheese) and it was really good.

Dining out, we also loved Legal Seafoods and Chicago Uno's Grill. Waiters really know what gluten is and they helped us a lot.

Also we had dinner at Burton's. This place is the best. Great GF burger WITH GF BUN!!

In conclussion, I wrote to the Spanish GF Association and I highly recommended going to Boston.

Thanks so much for your help.
