Great suggestions for turkey parts.....but I really like to make a whole turkey dinner just for us when we'll be having t-day somewhere else. I NEED turkey leftovers. Rolling Eyes I'll be making the whole dinner anyway. May as well make it the day before instead of the day after!

Well this year should be interesting. We've got our annual GF Thanksgiving bash were a few of the local support groups get together for a big meal. But I'm nervous for actual Thanksgiving as we'll be traveling to my SIL's house for the actual holiday. This is the first time I've ever NOT had Thanksgiving with my family (more then half of which are now GF). I'll be the only one. Fingers and toes crossed I don't get glutened! (PS: my SIL is exceptionally accommodating so I'll probably be okay, but it's not like when you live it all the time.)

This will be the first year my father-in-law won't be with us Sad so it looks like I'll be hosting from here on out. This is sad for one reason, but fine with me - no more "poor me" and no more "in-laws trying so hard but failing".
Menu? I'll figure it out soon...

The turkey has been seasoned and is in a holding pattern waiting for it's fate this afternoon.

We are cooking this bird ahead of time so we can get the turkey stock made before Thursday.

This will give us time to cook the additional turkey breast on the big day.

This year is our turn to host my family. Due to my mothers health issues, my oldest bro and his wife are coming back "home" from CO for a few days. Mom will get to spend T'giving with all 3 of her boys - something that has not taken place for quite some time.

Sunday is Peg's family's T'giving.

We're going to my son's for Thanksgiving. He is cooking a separate turkey breast for me since he likes the stuffing in the turkey. I'm taking a side dish and dessert. This is my first GF Thanksgiving, but I'm optomistic!

Al, I'm so glad your whole family gets a chance to be together this Thanksgiving. I'm sure it will mean a lot to your mom, as well as her sons.

Today starts the big cooking push for me. I've converted an NGF pie crust recipe that I found, with fabulous results. I baked a "test" pie the other day, and the crust was the best I've ever made. So, today I make the crusts, and pop them in the freezer until tomorrow. Tomorrow we make all the fillings and bake the pies. Ali is coming over to make the breads for the stuffing, and we are also going to bake a sample batch of a roll recipe we want to try.

We try to makes everyone's favorite pie(s), so the list gets pretty extensive. Here are the ones we are baking this year. 2 pumpkin, 1 deep dish apple, 2 chocolate, 1 coconut cream, 2 peanut butter, 1 pecan, 1 cold blueberry, 1 lemon chiffon or meringue. The reason we are making 2 pies of some flavors, is that it's tradition in our family to have pie for breakfast on Thanksgiving Day. Ali and her gang made sure I knew they would be over for breakfast! Laughing By making 2, I can put whole, uncut pies out on the buffet for dessert after dinner.

It's going to be so much fun to have at least one of my daughters and her family here this year. My seven year old grandson is so excited that he's flipping out! (me too!!)

Please send "good mouth vibes" my way today. I had to have a really difficult emergency root canal done yesterday. The endodontist warned me that I will be in a lot of pain for a few days, and he wasn't kidding.

Brining the turkey today and throwing it in the smoker tomorrow... it's gonna be sooooo good. Very Happy

So far two days at my SIL and no glutening. Woo! Plus lots of things for me to eat. (She even went and bought me my own cutting board... awww.)
