Yeow, it's been a busy month! In Sept, my niece got married in CO. While the trip had been booked months ago, before my Mom was dx'ed with lung cancer, things were up in the air if she was going and/or we would be going. Mom decided the Monday before the Thursday we left that she would be going...and that she'd be flying [I offered to cancel the airline tix and drive if she was more comfortable with that]. So...we had a only few days to take care of a lot last minute details...oxygen, wheelchair, etc.

It was good trip. Mom did pretty well. Frontier Airlines did a great job at accommodating Mom and her special needs. I would fly Frontier again!

October will be pretty busy too. We'll be having a Celiacforums.com Meet Up at Bunky's in Madison, WI on Oct. 10th [I wish every one of the board members could attend!].

Oct. 24th we'll be heading WI Largest GF/Food Allergy Expo in Rothschild, WI [it's by Wausau]. It should be interesting.

How 'bout everybody else?

For those that may be new...Check-In is a place to introduce yourself, tell us how things have been going, whatever comes to mind. If you post your progress in the GF diet, you can use it as a gauge to see how you've progressed. You can check back over the months a get a snap shot of how things were...

The Check-In Time Tunnel

Here's what we were doing last year.

Well, we're still alive and hanging in.

My DH brought some illness home 2 weeks ago, was sick at home for a week and complaining for a couple of days when he went back to work, and then we had our very FIRST bout of illness with the little one (a 3 day fever followed by rash) that kept us up at really weird hours for 3 days...
After all that, I got sick.... for like a week and a half! Sad

We're slowly marching towards my due date, and I'm starting to feel a bit more human again. Hard to say how much of it is the pregnancy and how much is having been glutened so badly when I was in the US. . . either way, it really sucked and I am looking forward to being more ME and less in bed/on bedrest due to feeling sucky.

We are prepping things for the baby's arrival and have made some pre-emptive purchases (a nice rocking chair YAY!!) and we're having to seriously baby-proof. Little man has figured out that he can open and close drawers in the kitchen, turn knobs on the stove, washing machine and dishwasher... Shocked I'm drawing up plans to make a "table" of sorts to go over our washing machine that we can do a flap on and lock it so he can't get to the knobs and buttons to turn it on. It's a front-loader, so I have to get a little creative. I need more counter space anyway, so my DH can't argue too much about that change Wink

Mom's coming next month, so we did get a guest bed put in our additional bedroom, and we're getting things prepped for her. I am hoping we get most everything in order, as I'd like her to REST before she feels like she has to work.

We have to see about making an appointment for the little one to see a specialist sometime this month, and other than that - we plan on laying low and keeping doc appointments to the OB for now.

Baby's getting really big, and should weigh close to 9 or 10lbs come his due date. So far he was measuring at 3 weeks ahead of what we expected and the EU "average". I laughed and reminded the doctor that both my husband and I come from tall people, we can't be expecting a petite little baby (5-7 pounds and 18-20 inches is usual here). He thought I was trying to be funny, but I wasn't. I think he forgets how big Jonathan was when he arrived.

We're doing well on the GF-front and found a few more convenience items we can have that have just become available. YAY for waffle-cookies (they look and taste just like I remember!!), and rice chips. There's a couple new bread and cookie items out by Schär so you know we're in heaven!

Man, everybody around me is either pregnant or just had a kid. Must be something in the water. *switches to OJ*

October is chugging along nicely so far. I'm really enjoying the cool weather. Missed my warm PJs and comforter. The scoot has been winterized. No more worrying about parking my car around the silly thing.

I did get glutened once, but it was minor and not my fault. The side effects only lasted for a couple of days.

Since Michigan had only about 2 weeks of HOT weather this year, I guess I can't complain. I am glad to see the cool weather returning and bringing with it lot's of fun stuff--the Renaissance Festival, orchards and cider mills, state fair and Halloween! Autumn is my FAVORITE season.
There's nothing new or exciting in my life right now and that's NOT a complaint. I've had "exciting" and I'll take "comfortable" any day. Smile

P.S. Sorry to hear about your mom, Al. That's a tough one.

I have to admit...I haven't been here for awhile. I spent the whole summer on Vieques, PR with no internet...imagine that! Cool
When I came back, I jumped straight into the classroom... teaching two different AP courses, one regular Algebra II, and one college grad course for Touro College.
To make my situation more interesting, I went to see a doctor last week, to complain about my foot. What happened was, that my first day on Vieques, I REALLY badly twisted my foot. I had to fly to the Main Island PR to visit ER, because they don't have x-ray on VQS. They told me that my foot was not broken, they put a cast on it and told me to go home and remove it after 5 days. I was supposed to be OK (said the technician, because no doctor spoke to me about my injury...). So, I removed my cast, and I exercised my foot. Anyway, three months later, my foot was still bothering me, I had pains, and I could not wear anything except for old comfortable shoes or sandals....forget the high heels!
So I went to see my doctor...I got yelled Confused ...hm...and he took some new x-rays and sent me to see a podiatrist. The podiatrist was looking at the x-rays, telling me that there is nothing he can do after 3 months, when his face changed...there is a fracture!!!! Shocked
I broke my foot 3 months ago, and it never healed, because I kept walking on it, moving it and exercising!!!!
To make the long story short, on my 40th birthday, I got a huge plastic boot to immobilise my foot. I have to wear it for the next 4 weeks. I can not imagine my days at the school with this thing...it is GIGANTIC!!! And, it is getting cold outside!
So, now when I find it soooo difficult to move around, suddenly, I have some time to sit down and browse my favorite forum....there is always a bright side to a bad situation... Wink

I haven't been around too much. I find life a bit overwhelming with a newborn and a one year old, plus the homeschooling, and recovering from the c-section. I am staggered at how long it really takes to recover from these things - I had NO idea and my OB's sure didn't tell me!

We have just gone thru the flu and we are at the tale end with lingering coughs. I spent an evening in the ER because my asthma got really bad. Doing somewhat better now, just trying not to inflame it again.

Had our first snow 2 nights ago. Blech!

On the gf front, things are going well. Haven't been glutened in a whle, thankfully!

I hope every one is enjoying the beauty of the fall!

Yikes! It is already the 19th and I'm just checking in... it's been a while. Happy to hear everyone had fun in Madison. I was bummed I had to miss it due to being in a wedding.

We are going to the GF Expo in Rothschild, WI this weekend, hoping to see Al/Peg there!

Not much else is new in Wisco... made it through seven weddings eating safe at each one. Keep finding more and more great GF options in the Milwaukee area. Have to give a shout out to Molly's GF Bakery in Pewaukee, WI. mollysglutenfreebakery.com At one of the wedding showers I attended, the groom's mother was kind enough to bring me a variety of treats- brownies, cupcakes, buns for sandwiches, ALL of which were amazing. Haven't been there yet, but will be going soon!

Hope you all are doing well!! Smile

Wow, it is the 19th already. My months keep flying by and I keep forgetting to check in. I've been keeping extra busy lately, especially when it comes to traveling. Last month was my trip to Atlanta, I made the drive to Madison to go to Bunky's, and I'm headed to a wedding in La Crosse, WI this weekend. I was hoping to go to the GF Expo, but my friends made plans for me for Saturday in La Crosse, and I haven't seen then much lately, so I'm going to stay to hang out with them.

Everything on the gf side of life is going well. I've made a few mistakes recently, but it's been from eating outside of the home.

Maybe I'll have more time to post next month.

Well this is my first check in...
I have been quite busy with my soapcrafting and homemaking...I am looking forward to the holidays upcoming, with my 2 young adult children making the seasonal trek back home....
Going GF will be a challenge, but I am trying to roll with it. I am finding withdrawal the hardest thing to deal with right now, but if I can ride the wave, maybe things will settle down.
I will be browsing the forum for Thanksgiving and X'mas recipes for sure!
Thank you for all your support and welcome I have received right from the start!

I wanted to wait to post until after I attended a quilt retreat -- my first since going GF. Everything went great! The chef is really in tune with food intolerances and allergies. He did forget about making a GF entree one night, so I just dined on veggies and salad. No biggie! I took my own bread, milk, and salad dressing to make things easier.

I also did an exchange with Al during the weekend since the retreat was near his home town. I bought fifty pounds of Jules GF flour mix, and split it with Al and Peg. Al mentioned that we might get busted exchanging three huge bags of "white powder" for cash!! We got away with it this time. The local police probably already know all about him. Laughing

I'm still hobbling around a bit from my horse injury in July. In the past I used to walk two miles a day. I tried it a few weeks ago, and suffered for several days afterwards. I'm hoping everything is back to normal real soon.

I'm leaving for the Seattle area next week to visit my DD and family. I'm also meeting my college roomie for a few days. I'm excited.

Hope everyone avoids glutening and has a great month!

LOL - Yup I'm on the 10 most un-wanted list alright Wink

Peg used some of the flour yesterday, she tried some Peanut Butter Cookies with the Jules mix - works pretty good!

Thanks again for doing all the work on the flour!

Glad to hear the chef was mostly accommodating Wink
