| Quote: | No pain, no grain one year after diagnosis of gluten intolerance
BY ERIN MADISON • TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER • OCTOBER 21, 2009
A year ago I walked into my doctor's office trying not to get my hopes up.
I was set to get the results from a blood test that would determine whether I had celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder that causes the body to attack itself when gluten is ingested.
I've had stomachaches for years — so long that it's hard to remember exactly when they started. I think it was somewhere around my senior year of high school. At first, I blamed it on stress. When I went off to college I blamed it on dorm food. Somewhere along the way, I saw a doctor, who did a few tests, didn't find anything and shrugged it off. So I did too. For the most part I just learned to ignore the pain that ranged from dull in my stomach to sharp under my ribs, and the feeling of nausea.

Thanks for posting this. One of the ladies I usually chat with on another forum has recently been DX'd and needs some encouragement. _________________
