|
|
Hi again
Can anyone let me know what chocolate bars/sweets are ok to eat on a gluten free diet?!
I just like to have the odd nibble and have brought gluten free biscuits but am finding them quite expensive. I also havn't found any sweets yet (or are most sweets ok?). I am still getting used to labelling information.
Thanks in advance. |

Hi SC,
You're in the UK, right? _________________ Al

Not sure what's available in the UK (I'm in the states) but maybe someone from over the pond that's on this board can help?
Otherwise you might check in with your local support group and see what advice they have. They're often a great resource!
You can look around here too on how to call and ask the manufacturer of your favorite candy if their product is GF. _________________ Cheers!

I have a sister who lives in the UK. She has CD, and last summer she mentioned eating Cadbury chocolate, if I remember right. You should still check with the manufacturer to see which items are safe. Also, I understand that a Whole Foods Market opened up in London in the last year, and that they carry a lot of U.S. based products. Here, in the U.S., WFMs carry Dagoba chocolate which is GF. Perhaps they have it there as well. You should be able to find a lot of GF items at Whole Foods, if you are close enough to London to make it possible. _________________ Steph |

If you register with Coeliac.co.uk they will send you a comprehensive list of exactly what is safe and it is regularly updated on their website. It is an invaluable resource and for the first few months after my son was diagnosed I didn't go shopping without their little book! It also goes through all the major supermarkets and their own brands.
Cadbury's chocolate is a bit iffy because it is made in the same factory as Kitkats (wafers=gluten) so there could be contamination. Galaxy is okay, Aero, and so are a lot of others. My son certainly doesn't miss out in that area! _________________ Kirsty
