What's the scoop on using boullion? There are several recipes I would like to make for the holidays and don't know about this ingredient. If it's not OK, what would I substitute? Thanks.

Knorr will list any wheat, barley, rye, oats on the label.
Also, last I knew Herb Ox beef, chicken, and vegetable was gluten free. It's been a while since I've confirmed with them, though, so I would call the number on the label just to be sure.
Gluten Free Pantry also has some good chicken broth mix that I use most often.

Only Herb Ox cubes are gluten free - the granules are not.

Herbox is a Hormel product. Hormel is very GF friendly in their labeling, they won't hide anything. Many of their products will say "Gluten Free" on the package. Herbox does not - I just looked at the box in my cupboard.

I just talked to Nancy at Hormel...ALL Herb ox forms are GF. She also stated they will not hide ANY form of gluten (wheat, barly, rye, oats). They get tons of calls on gluten every day.

Here's the email I got from her. Hehehee I got impatient and called after I sent the email. Sorry to bug you twice Nancy! Smile

Yup - Knorr is a Unilever product.

Unilever Family Product List - A list of all the products Unilever has.

Yup - Knorr is a Unilever product.

What's funny is that I told my mother to buy Knorr for Thanksgiving, and obviously in the grocery store it's in the hispanic section instead of with the other boullion (I got mine at wally world). It is labeled in Spanish as well as English, so maybe that will help someone that's looking.

Next time I might try to find some without MSG.
