Happy New Year!!

Well, 2007 is here.

We didn't have a quiet NYE as we usually do. My oldest brother & wife came back to WI for my other brother's 50th birthday party on Saturday. So, we had my family, our friend Maggie [see above on the left Wink], and another friend of my CO brother. Usually it's just our friend Mag. A good time and good eats were had by all!! I was worried about grilling the 2-3" thick steaks Surprised since we don't get that cut ourselves. Forturnately they weren't black on the outside and red on the inside Smile Maggie always brings me new GF snacks when ever she visits. My favorite item this time was Nutty Cranberry Maple Granola by Bakery on Main.

Now that the holidays are over, things can get back to normal. We can take a breather and settle back into that status quo groove Ahhhhhh Wink My dairy reduced status takes a beating this time of year. I know, I know...Surprised

Does anyone have any particular goals for 2007?

Thanks everybody for making 2006 happy and healthy as it can be for many people...here's to an even better 2007.

Everybody fall out for Check-in. All are welcome!!

For the new members here, Check-In is a place where you can share your progress of your GF Journey. Be it forwards or backwards - heck even sideways! Or you can just say Hi. It's just a way to touch base with everyone and let us know how you're doing. This thread can be fun to look at months, and years [when we get that much history] later. You can see where you've been and how far you've come! So, please..Check-In. Smile

I'll update everyone on all the crazy things I have been doing. We went to cancun the begining of dec. and of corse no luck on the language thing, me and daughter ate the best we could but was sick most of the time so we decided if were going to be sick anyway just drank pina coladas daily (non alcohol) she spent one day in bed from being so dizzy. And the wind and rain were bad everyday but one. But were back and back to very little eating. We are now doing naet treatments(you can look it up on the net) but people swear it gets rid off their food allergies. We'll see! And we do have massive candida (knew we did) and I am doing detox foot baths to clean the toxins out of my body. And I am still doing the endo-biogenics plan (plant oils)and supplements. My husband thinks its all hockus-pockus. But at this point of taking almost all foods out and still not feeling better, could it really hurt? Heck I've gone back to church and done 7 months of counseling. I don't know of anything I have'nt tried, I've even gone to every natural path, an eyradoligist, and the mayo clinic. So we will give this stuff atleast a chance. I did gain 5 pounds while we were in mexico from eating bad foods, but of course when we got back I lost it again going back on my diet. Well for the new year I am going to get healthy and get back exercising. good health and a good outlook for all in the new year. carey

Happy 2007 everybody!

Our December was fast and fun. My aunt and grandma came up for Christmas. My sister-in-law announced that she's pregnant! DH and I will have a little niece or nephew some time in early August. Now if only I had some more time off...

I think we did pretty good, GF wise. I didn't get sick, so we must've done something right. Wink Now that the holidays are over we can go back to our standard GF food.

I don't make New Years resolutions because I don't really see the point. However, in an effort to help my aunt quit smoking I told her I'd quit swearing. You guys can help keep me in line. Wink

Carey - sorry to hear you didn't feel well in Mexico. Hope you get some answers soon!

Just over 2 months gf - the diet is going well, and I am thankful that I don't have issues with feeling deprived. I will happily eat the same few foods everyday, if it can help me feel healthy again. I have restricted my diet in various ways for a very long time, in an effort to feel better, so this is not new territory.

Mentally, I am doing much better. My focus has improved dramatically, and my mostly-restored brainpower may actually allow me to keep my job (it has been in serious jeopardy ever since the thickest brain fog set in during this past year). Physically, I am realizing how far I still have to go. I enthusiastically headed out into our latest Colorado snow with a snow shovel on Friday, only to find myself paying for it the rest of the weekend. Both discouraging and humbling, but a good lesson in recouping my life slowly.

But here's the really big news: My husband wants to help me make our house completely gluten free! My 16 year old daughter is happy about it, since she has been trying to cut out gluten (not yet diagnosed, but very symptomatic and says she feels better when she avoids gluten. She will see a GI this month). I thought my 14 year old daughter's eyes were going to pop right out of her head - she was NOT pleased with this news! We will slowly transition, as the current gluten foods in our kitchen get consumed. No new ones will come into the house. And we got agreement from the girls that there will be no more complaints about the "boring dinners" - they can spice up the basic foods I'm preparing, or make something else.

Yippee!!! I feel so supported by my family now in regaining my health!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I had a very quiet NYE...stayed home and chilled out with my goofy cats, watching the Law & Order and CSI marathons on TV...

Yeah, I guess they're pretty pooped out from all of the holiday craziness, too! Laughing And it's funny--the two of them *never* sleep this close together...maybe they're finally getting used to each other! Surprised Tee-hee!

Hi Barrett,

I am so glad you are feeling better! It's just amazing what a "simple" dietary change will do.

Having the support you will get you far. It's one of the keys to successfully dealing with this.

Getting your DD tested would be a good thing before she goes GF. Getting an official dx does have some advantages. It's certainly a heck of a lot easier to do it now while she's not GF.

Take things easy for awhile - don't rush your body into something it's not ready for.

Keep up the good work!!

Very Happy HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Very Happy

Well, I've only been on my GF diet since July, but I guess it's been going ok. Still trying to learn to read the labels, etc... Get frustrated at times (like w/Hershey's---been a long-time Hershey-chocoholic!). But, all in all, feel much better!
My goals for 2007 include: continuing to do better w/my new GF lifestyle, exercise more and just to try help others more and serve the Lord better!

Best wishes to everyone in the new year!

Happy New Year!!! =)

January 1, 2007 was our 2nd day of a complete GF household! We tossed all the non-gluten free foods (donated unopened, gave ok opened food to friends) and now *everything* in the house is safe for my kiddos. =)

I'm thrilled that 2006 is over, it was a ROUGH year for us.

I don't make resolutions, but I do have some goals.....
1. Lose the rest of this baby weight - I've already gone back to WW.
2. Be a better advocate for my children, in all aspects.
3. Get organized!!!
4. spend less time online ( Embarassed )
5. get more involved with the CSA.

We had an extremely low key New Years Eve. We sat around doing nothing. And, didn't do much more than that today! 2007... please be kind to us!!!

Yeah, my kitties both love their blankies! Smile

I *do* have to admit, though...the 50s-style kitty "blanket" isn't really a blanket--it's my pajamas! Embarassed I tell you--if I don't throw something into the hamper immediately, it becomes a "kitty blanket" almost instantaneously! Kona's absolute favorite is the beautiful new one down on the couch--that's where she fell asleep on NYE! Wink

Here I am. Next week gets me back to my regular schedule at work - 25 hrs/week instead of the 32-40 I've done the last couple to cover everyone else's time off.

Disneyland was a great success, Jim at the Plaza Inn went above and beyond to get Ty a wonderful breakfast of 6 Shocked Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes, bunch of grapes, slice each of honeydew, pineapple and watermelon, 2 pkgs of maple syrup and six pats of butter all in a to-go box for $4.28! To-go because it was reservation only all-you-can-eat buffet for $23.99. Shocked Insert emoticon of me falling over and landing on the floor. We told him outright we had no intention of paying $24 for what would be equivalent to an egg and a few hash browns. He got us the GF pancakes and sent us to another more reasonably priced restaurant on the park. It ended up having a 45 minute wait, so we split the pancakes and fruit.

Meanwhile, my goal is to spend less time goofing off on the computer and more time de-cluttering.

We went to my brother in law's for NYE and it turns out Ty is a karaoke microphone hog. You should hear his rendition of "Blue Sue-doo Shoes". It's tough to read the word suede when you're 7. His brother was having none of that, so he was in the basement with his cousin learning how to do a wrist shot. We'll see if it worked at hockey practice tonight.

That's it! Now, back to goofing off on the computer.

This is a great thread! I love reading what is happening with everyone and it encourages me! Our December was great and we all stayed GF, even though we purchased soda pop for the children and I forgot to check on the GF status. Embarassed Thankfully, no one was sick! NYE was fun and I didn't wonder if Silly String was GF until AFTER all 36 cans had been discharged! Confused Had to open several windows so we didn't all get dizzy from the smell. Shocked

January is a month I don't really look forward to - we start school again next Monday, my Husband has surgery again on his foot/ankle at the end of the month, and I have some medical tests coming up that I'm not looking forward to. But my children are all safe, fed, warm, healthy, and happy and I can't ask for more than that! Smile

My goals for this year are to continue Boo's training in the manners department (finally got her to understand that she is NOT allowed in the kitchen during meal prep and dinner - so one bad habit can get checked off the LONG list!), to get more exercise, lose more weight, declutter the house (not an easy task, when I see something as clutter and my 12 year old sees the same thing as the best treasure in the world!), and get our home ready to put on the market. Looking forward to the months after January!

Yes, Boo is one of the kids! Except she takes the form of a Labrador Retriever. But don't tell HER that! She'd wig if she knew she were a fur face!
