This company http://www.schaer.com/ I use their bread crumb product. It's really nice. However the store I buy them from is now not carrying them any more. An employee said there was issues with contamination and they won't be dealing with them. They have no replacement.
Anyone heard of this? It's a shame because I really like this product and so far I can't find a replacement

I haven't heard anything about contamination, but I know that some people are having trouble finding their products. Perhaps they are having distribution issues. There are many Schar products (including the breadcrumbs) available on glutenfree.com.
Hope you can find them. It is so frustrating when you really like something and then it goes away. _________________ -Colleen

| I can not find Schar (Schaer) in the states here but I used them alot in France while I was there. I fell in love with everything I tried and they were represented at last years International Celiac Symposium in NY. I get their European advertisements in the mail but have never found them near me. You can write them on their website if you are worried about contamination www.schaer.com. I would be interested in knowing what they have to say. |

I would also be interested in what they have to say, b/c Ina loves their crackers....we have not purchased them in a while, but they are really good....I found them at Healthy Approach Market in Colleyville, TX....and I know they had some things last week when I was there.... _________________ Connie, mom to Ina, 14 y/o with CD |

Hey, thanks for the replies folks. I am not sure how reliable the contamination claim is. I am going fire off an email to them and see what's up.
cruelshoes;
Agreed, this is not the first time this has happened. I have had bakeries that I have come to rely on stop making product, products taken off shelves and discontinued. It is so frustrating. This product in particular, makes a really good chicken or veal parm dish. I also use it for binding in burgers or meatloaf.
I am going to check out the link you posted and see
Thanks again

Me thinks something is up. If I switch to Canada at glutenfree.com all of the Schar products disappear. It's like they are not available to Canadian customers. I have fired off an email to them.
I am interested as to what's going on.

I know it's not what you asked for, but Kinnikinnick sells breadcrumbs too - see link. _________________ -Colleen

I certainly appreciate that. I did not know they had that product. If I can't sort this out I will give it a go.
Actually, thinking about it, I am just going to go ahead and order some any way. Maybe they are better
Thanks

Got my answer
Quote:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting glutenfree.com. Due to labeling problems the Dr Schar products are not available in Canada at this time. We only have limited supplies in the USA also as no products have left Italy for the USA since January.

Well I don't think this is going to be sorted any time soon. I have placed an order with Kinnikinnick and it shipped today. Hopefully they are as good. Hate it when this happens. Oh well.

OK so my order from Kinnkik......Kinkinn... Kickinnnikkinnnkl....(You know, that place with the weird name) arrived. Had some breaded chicken cutlets last night. MMMMMM good. This is a great replacement. I would recommend these to anyone.
Oh and while you're at it try the brownies. They are awesome.

No I didn't. But I will next go around. I just placed a small order to try out the bread crumbs. Also I have some "Graham wafer" crumbs from them. They smell yummers. Going to try using them for our cheese cake crust. Can't wait.

We got great little Madelines in Croatia made by Dr. Schar ( not sure if its the same company) but my husband thought he'd died and gone to heaven , we even stocked up with them to take home to Ireland.
We've had problems sourcing that brand here in Ireland _________________ As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never point the wrong way ~ An old Irish Blessing! |
