Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summers out of reach
Empty lake,
Empty streets
The sun goes down alone

Yup, the end of summer is near. Some trees in our neighborhood are starting to change colors already! Shocked Fall is coming!

As many of you know I started an online web development class. It's been...frustrating to say the least. It's not because I don't understand it...it's an organizational thing [no it's not poor organization on my end Wink]. I'll feel better when I get my software and textbook.

I'm wondering if my B-complex wasn't causing some problems for me [too much B6??]. I had stopped taking it for several days and noticed my feet felt much better! For a while now, I've felt that the numbness was spreading in my feet and other parts. I've been off the B-complex now for about 3 weeks. I'll see how it goes.

For those of you just tuning in, Check-In is chance to introduce yourself, let everyone know how you're doing, what you're up to, to touch base...something, anything, just let us know you're still around Smile

The Check-In Time Tunnel

Al,

The picture is awesome! Wish I was there now. I've been busy getting back to homeschooling our DD, she skipped a grade and is now a 13 yr old Freshman in high school. I started my Doctorate Program in July (distance learning/ onsite) for Naturopathic Medicine. Keeping very busy with all of the reading and work! Hubby is doing very well and is working full time, we still are trying to fit in a vacation after all of his health scares and my nose to the books with lessonplans for DD and my school work. We have a new puppy, okay not so new any more, she is 6-mo old. She is 1/2 Bulldog and 1/2 Beagle (Beabull) Sheis Brindle and White and very active. Our German Shepherd/Bloodhound mix (6yr old) treats her like sheis her puppy. It's cute, but they do fight a bit. I know they are working out who is the boss. Cool

Well, I'm at work right now. I get off at 15 after midnight and have to get up early to get the kids back to school. Ty got a new lunch pail (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) that came with a thermos, so he's going to try a hot lunch. He's going to have beef and veg fried rice. I wouldn't want to be at the desk next to him. Might be a bit messy eating from a deep thermos and if he tries to put it in the little cup part of the thermos, I envision stirfry everywhere but his stomach. Walker's going to take a taco salad. The first time he took a taco salad he tried to put the taco salad into the thermos with the meat. I set him straight pretty quickly.
First day of school AND first day of hockey evaluations as well.
That's all I have to report.

Gee - September already..... We just got back from our second trip to China in 8 months and did even better gluten-wise than the first time. My daughter had lots of fresh foods and plain foods while the rest of us got dumplings and noodles - so that was kind of sad for her. But on the other hand she didn't get sick (except for one or two silly mistakes having nothing to do with being in China). But on the other hand she lost 5 pounds that she didn't need to lose.

School starts next week and we will be back to packing lunches (UGH). If only Rebecca were a more adventurous eater. Even without the celiac she was picky - now there seem to be less and less things she will eat.... but at least now she is healthy with no more symptoms. She hasn't even asked for Mylanta for several months.. and that used to be a bi-weekly thing at least.

I have to go back and check my dates from last year because some time this month it will be one year since diagnosis. Maybe we should have a party.

Man, the year needs to stop going by so quickly. At least September shouldn't be as busy as July/August.

My little nephew's baptism is this month, so we'll be having some relatives from out of town stay with us. These are the same relatives we'll be seeing again when we go on vacation in December.

We've also seriously started looking for a house. We won't be (hopefully) moving out until Feb. next year, but it doesn't hurt to start looking. It's rather hard because DH and I are on different schedules, so we'll see how it goes.

Things are a-OK on the gluten front. I've been on a "convert old favorite dishes to GF" kick. Last night was lo mein, which was OK but needs more tweaking. Next week is BBQ chicken.

Not really sure where the summer went. Seems like school was just out, and now it's back in again. My oldest started middle school - Waaaaah! Not quite sure how I ended up with an 11 year old, but there it is. My son started 3rd grade, and he has a new teacher this year. I have started to break her in on the GF front, and hope things go smoothly. On a happy note, the baby had her 1-year checkup yesterday. She has made it back on the growth chart! OK - she is in the 8th percentile, but it really feels like a success.

Our chickens laid their first egg yesterday! It seems like we have been waiting forever, but it finally happened. It was a double, softshell egg (2 small eggs stuck together and the eggshell is soft like paper - it was the wierdest thing you have ever seen), so we couldn't eat it, but we took lots of pictures. Very Happy Sometimes this happens when pullets first start to lay, but they should normalize in the next few tries. The look on that chicken's face after it happened whas the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. She was just standing in the nest box with an expression like "What the hell just happened to me?" There is a reason why chickens are not rocket scientists.

I broke my toe last week. If you ever thought dropping a 10-pound frozen turkey on your foot might be a good idea, think again.

Not much new to report in my GF kitchen. I am in a bit of a rut and need to find some new recipes. Hope I have something new to post in the recipe forums soon.....

My kids actually started back to school Monday August 20th. Seems like they start so early here anymore! I have 1 in 2nd grade and 1 in Kindergarten, and then I have 1 who is 2. So, I still get to have 1 home with me during the day! Now, I feel like I'm playing catch-up trying to get some things done that I've put off until the kids got back into school.

Summer just FLEW by! We've still be able to take our boat out a lot on the weekends. We've had a blast with that this summer! Probably only a couple more nice weekends for that before it starts getting too cool to ski. I'm so ready for fall and the less humid weather... and I love the fall colors! Plus... College football games start this weekend here so we'll be going to those! Go Hawks!!!!

Sweet September and my favorite time of year! I am NOT a summer girl! Once the heat drops a little I'll be playing outside again. Renaissance Festival and apple picking time, celebrating the harvest and beginning to get the Octagon House ready for Christmas is where my energy is going right now. (And, NO, I'm NOT jumping the seasons--it takes a long time to decorate 90 Xmas trees!) I'll be seeing an optholmologist at the end of the month to see if he can correct my double vision and hopefully, get me driving again. Oooooh! That would be sooo nice. I haven't been glutened in a loooong time so that's good too. Glad to hear everyone's doing well.

Well, hooray for one month completed at the new job! Wink
It's been a busy few weeks for me, but I'm learning more by the second, so I guess that's a good thing. Smile
Oh, and I just booked an extended weekend trip out to San Francisco to see my brother. I haven't been on vacation in three years and just decided to say, "Eff it, I deserve it!" Surprised I feel like I just realized that it's so important to enjoy life while I'm here and healthy, so that's what I'm going to do! Very Happy I'm so excited, actually, and my brother is thrilled that I'm going out there to visit. We don't have any solid plans, but I'm thinking a day trip to Sonoma might be in the works...
Emmett and Kona are doing well. Kona is on a diet (the vet says she has to lose about 4 pounds, which is tough for a cat... Rolling Eyes ), so we'll see how that goes...I don't know what I'd do without my two little kitties. Wink
I guess that's about it for me...now, trying to figure out what to do for my favorite holiday--it's coming up FAR too quickly!!!

Well, let's see, I know where my summer went. LOL Planning the wedding, executing the wedding and then recovering from the wedding.

yesterday MrP came home early from work. His company had been bought out a couple of months back. They were told no changes until the first of the year, but yesterday, he was 1 of about 7 that were laid off from their jobs. (small company)

I really worry about him! With all that is going on with his health, he had asked for reasonable accomodations to be made per a letter from the dr. I guess their idea and our 'idea' was a little different. (Of course they deny this...........they say that there is someone else doing his work with the merged company.) I am going to ask the dr. if it might be time to look into claiming Disability time.

With all that is going on with his health, I am not sure he is going to find a job that he can work full time. (The dr. doesn't want me to go back to work and with my surgery date of this Friday with a 6 wk full recovery, I can't really even look into anything)

Other than praying that God will provide and show us the next step, this is how our September is going.

Well I am new here but I will join in.

I can't believe it is Sept already either, but this is my favorite time of the year. I decorated the house for fall today and planted some fall flowers in my flower beds, untill it started pouring.

I have a 3 year old DD She started her preschool this week. So far she is having trouble listiening, but otherwise it is going great.

After all the rain came we decided to go "looking" at some furniture stores. And ended up buying a new living room suit. I am excited but bummed it will be another month before we get it!

And I really need to quit playing on the computer and go finish my laundry.
Sigh.

I go see a gastro Tuesday, hopefully that will go well. So far I am getting used to the GF thing and kind of getting the hang of it, except at dinner when DD tries to put her lgutened food on my plate because she don't like it. Sad We are working on that one still Wink
well I better go finish that laundry now!! Rolling Eyes

Oh man MrsP, I'm sorry to hear that! I hope he finds something soon. Has he thought about working at home?
