Life's just been goin' on. Hockey has started for my boys (which means 6 or 7 hours in the rink a week), I've been picking up shifts at work, fall is happening all around. I love our big trees (7 big aspen) but the leaves are everywhere right now - gotta get raking. Our first snow was on Sep 18 - I hope we don't get anymore for awhile.

How did it get to be October so fast ?!?!?

On the gluten front, I've been a good girl. Wink I have been so careful what I eat and I've been feeling good...just about at that dangerous point where I think I'm invincible and accidentally get careless and gluten myself. I ordered a variety of buns from Quejos and they aren't bad - different texture, nice change.

Gettin' excited about Halloween (and starting to think about Christmas!)...

Can't believe it's October already!! Wow, this year has gone soooo fast! We're getting more fall colors on the trees around here, and the weather has been absolutely beautiful! Our boys love school and have wonderful teachers this year! We've been having fun going to football games (although the U of I isn't having a great year!). And we're winterizing our boat in another couple weeks. Then it really feels like winter is around the corner after that!
We've had a WONDERFUL summer and fall so far this year! It was so nice to be able to enjoy doing things with our boys, and my husband.... after having a hard time all last year with illnesses. I'm still not 100% but much, much better! I'm still investigating some issues that are still with me. I'm going for a sleep study later this week. Sleep apnea runs in my family.... and it could explain a few things!
Hope you all have a wonderful October! It's my favorite month! I love the weather!

Take care!

Wow, I can't believe September is gone. I am still recovering from my surgery. I had a great check-up yesterday. Hopefully by the first week of November, she will turn me loose. LOL....

MrP is doing some better. As long as he is in our home, he doesn't have as many accidents. (I just have to be better about asking him to hand me something that is incased in cardboard. (He handed me a ziplock the other day and reacted to touching the paper.......yesterday I bought a plastic box to put all ziplocks in so he can help in the kitchen.....~WINK~ where there's a will, there's a way. LOL)

We found out the other day that we are going to be Grandparents in late May. Laughing (Our DD in Germany that got married in June is the one expecting)

We are still wading through paperwork to be filled out for applying for MrP's disability. I am wondering if anyone actually reads the repeated answers to ?'s the Government asks.

Maybe we should all purchase scissors for Government workers so they can cut through all of the red tape that binds them so they can do their work more efficently. LOL Maybe this is why Gov. works so slowly, they are all duck taped to their chairs with their hands bound. Laughing

So far October has been perfect scootin' weather! A bit cool in the morning, but just gorgeous in the afternoon. It seems like we'll actually get a normal fall this year, instead of 2 weeks of fall then a blizzard/ice storm. The leaves are actually changing color.

don'twannawinterizethescootyoucan'tmakeme

I don't think we'll be decorating for Halloween, which makes me sad. No pumpkin seeds for Ostrich. Sad But next year....oh, there will be pumpkins next year. And seeds. Glorious seeds.

In another week or so the framing on our house should be done; the siding will be done closer to Halloween. Right now we have a bunch of pre-framed walls in our driveway.

DH picked up more hours at work, huzzah! However, it means he'll be working three 12 hour shifts per week, for a total of 60 hours/week. Boo. We literally only get 1.5 days together: Tuesday night and Sunday. That should change in November when his school stuff settles down.

Can't believe how quickly September went! The nice summer weather went with it, too. It has been cold and blustery here the last week or so.

The kids are settled back in to school. I am still trying to get back into the swing of packing lunches. We are in such a rut lately and I really am grasping for new ideas. My son is a creature of habit and realy wants a sandwich every day, but I am a little tired of packing the same old thing.

We got some major home repairs done last month, including a new roof and new front entry door. Our roof was pretty damaged in the major storm we had last year, and it really neded to go. The new one looks really great.

We have successfully integrated our two sets of chickens. We have some that are 24 weeks and some that are 16 weeks. Both sets were resisting "cohabitation". With the exception of an occasional skirmish in the coop, things seem to have calmed down and everyone is living together somewhat peacefully. We are getting 3 eggs a day now, and should be getting even more once the younger ones get a bit older. We are saving the egg shells (blowing out the contents) and plan to try to make christmas ornaments or something with them.

I have managed to lose another few pounds, so now I only have 3 to go to reach my goal. 120's here I come!I have been better about exercising lately, but need to get back into the swing of doing things indoors now that the weather has turned against me.

Hope you are all well. I love reading everyone's updates.

My daughter informs me that I officially turned "old" in September. She had her 18th birthday, and if your baby is an adult you must be old. (She was born the day after my 30th b'day - but my gaining another year is not what made me old!)

What else has happened? At my age, it's so hard to remember......

Oh yeah! My son and his fiance, moved to Baltimore, both have jobs, and hopefully today are getting an apartment. (They have been living in their car for 4 weeks, saving up enough money to put a deposit and first month's rent on an apartment.) Some folks, I hear, actually make plans before they move. Although that was spoken with sarcasm, their moving was probably a good thing. They were involved in some things they needed not to be in here, and the only way to get away from the wrong crowd was to move very far away. Every time they tried to plan ahead, one or the other would "chicken out". So this time, when they decided to go, they went. My son talks to me more now, than he did when he was nearby. (and they finally set a wedding date)

Dad is doing well, recovering from cataract surgery and planning for the next one in a few weeks. He did get glutened at a church pot luck Sunday, but he's feeling better now.

We are also building a new house, but it takes a bit longer when you work full time and work one day a week doing the actual building part. We (we means hubby) are dong all the work, starting with digging the hole, and forming and pouring the foundation (the truck came, but we pulled the concrete all the way around the forms). We poured the foundation on October 23, 2006, we have all the framing and sheathing done, we'll be roofing it this weekend, then we'll start roughing in electrical and plumbing. Thankfully, it's just across the driveway, so Jim can work a few minutes here and there, when it's not Saturday.

Where is this cool weather of which you speak? We are still 80's and 90's. We haven't had an inch of rain since June. We will not be having a pretty fall this year, just brown. It did cool off enough last Saturday for Em to have a bonfire for her party. But last night we were wishing our AC hadn't died. (It died in early September, and we thought we wouldn't need to replace it till spring. We were wrong, but we're not giving in!)

Okay, that's enough. Sorry for the long windedness!

Donna

SIHAD has been one busy chick! My hubby got laid off last month and now I'm working at a daycare again. :/

Things have been just sailing along. I totally forgot to prepare for halloween. oh well. they're going to all flock to my door, GF candy or not. I just hate being left with leftover candy I can't eat. I should have planned better...

the kitties are doing well, they're all laid out at my feet as I type. They've been enjoying some nice Deboles noodles and meatballs for dinner, and they're stuffed to the gills.

There's no real news here I guess, but I just wanted to let you know I'm alive.

Hockey has started here, so spending a lot of time at the arena. Four hours a week at least, not counting travel time. Although we live around the corner from an arena, we have been having all the practices at an arena a 30 minute drive away. At least it's still in town; some people who live a bit farther north than us have to travel to outlying rural communities for ice time.
School is going well for both the boys. Walker is getting lots of tests returned with 100% at the top. Ty hasn't had any real tests, just quizzes, but he seems to be getting only 2 or 3 wrong answers on each. School lunches are boring but predictable to pack. Lots of pre-preparation though. Walker has been taking taco salad a lot, and Ty takes either beef or chicken stirfried with rice, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and egg. (I make it on the weekend and pack it in little zip bags and keep them in the freezer.)
I'm still working at least 25 hours a week and hoping to win the lottery, but that requires me to actually purchase a ticket.
Our reno of the room above the garage will be complete by the end of the month - I hope.
Also, we had flurries here yesterday and today.

Not much going on here. I am working a lot of overtime, so I am not doing much else except school work. I have found some new foods around here that I can eat so I am excited about that. I started a diet a couple of weeks ago, and that is going pretty well so far. Other than that not much new. I have midterms next week and am looking forward to the holidays. I am also still writing the cookbook and book, though I haven't gotten a whole lot done with them. I can't believe September went so fast!

I got a chance to travel to NY and take one of the kids I have done stuff with (his dad is in prison) for 14 years. He was turning 21 and plays college baseball so we went to a Yankees game and a Mets game while in NY at their home stadiums. We did the normal tourist stuff as well since this was his first time there.

Healthwise, anyone, please give me a contact for new body sales. I need one. Smile

It is definitely fall weather here in N. CA where usually it would be nicer and not so cold. I did go to San Diego last weekend to warm up though for a couple of days. Next, I think I am off to Florida to spend time with the brother. Then to Oklahoma to celebrate their 100th statehood birthday on Nov 7th.

OK - since West has broken the baseball barrier, I feel the need to comment: GO ROCKIES! It's an exciting time here in Denver. Our baseball team is literally rockin', fall is gorgeous (first bit 'o' frost this morning and had to fireup the furnace), but we won't talk about the Broncos Rolling Eyes .
I'm in the midst of testing for my mystery gut problems, waiting on results, and hoping for the best. Made my first ever batch of chicken soup last night with great results! I kind of meshed recipes from TEC and glutenfreegirl. Diversifying my diet and enjoying things like sweet potatoes. I'm trying to cope with all the current limitations, and getting ready to travel this week to Rhode Island, actually Block Island - off the coast - for my brother's wedding. No kids - just me and my honey! I'm hoping to relax and forget about my troubles for a few days, and of course, I"ll be taking a food and cooking utensil case. A quick stop at Whole Foods before we board the ferry and I should be good to go. Brother and his best man are both long-time restaurant guys, and have promised me I will have GF/CF/DF/SF food that is uncontaminated to eat at the wedding.
Enjoy the crispy colorful fall, everyone!

Homeschooling our DD, who is a freshman in HS. Working on my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, taking care of the critters, family, husband. Spending more time cooking and getting ready to go visit my Dad, who is in from Finland with his wife. Just got our puppy spayed, she is so pitiful and our older dog seems lost without her playmate. Cool

Congratulations on the Rockies going to the World Series!! After the D'backs swept the Cubs, our whole family has been pulling for the Rockies!

I bet things are pretty hyper over there right about now!

Thanks Kristie! It sure is exciting and a good thing for the whole city. People get so nutty about the playoffs. Funny thing, my boss has season tickets and I can hardly give them away during the regular season. As the office ticket distributor I've suddenly become very popular!
Though I think my head may explode if both the Rockies and the Red Sox (my childhood home team) both end up in the Series.
Regardless, it's a nice diversion from the more serious side of life, if not a barrier to a good night's sleep due to the late broadcast times. Very Happy
