Hope everyone had a good Halloween [if you're into that kind of thing. It's a huge deal for some]. I spent mine trying to resurrect my video production hard disk - no luck. Talk about scary!! Guess I waited a bit too long to upgrade the hard disk.
My Website Design and Development class is done! YAHOO! Just waiting for the final grade. I had a 98.9% going into the last assessment, we'll see what I walk away with. The last assessment didnt get 100% attention - I just wanted to be done.
I hadn't even gotten my van back from the repair shop [I hit a moose...umm...raccoon that was a big as one], and I hit a deer with Peg's car. Both events were coming home from a church council meeting. I think God is trying to tell me something ["Alan, quit council". Luckily I'm done in Jan.]. I told Peg before I left last Wed. "I'm taking your car cuz I'm not going to hit something with the 2007 loaner car". Peg sez "You're not going to hit anything..." So much for a woman's intuition
Oh - tomorrow is our 16th anniversary. I s'pose I should starting thinking of something, eh? Weather's a bit warmer now than it was then [windy, very cold and snow].
For those of you just tuning in, Check-In is chance to introduce yourself, let everyone know how you're doing, what you're up to, to touch base...something, anything, just let us know you're still around

Guess we had a good Halloween - pretty windy but the kids had fun. I'm sitting here with my morning coffee and, except for being a bit tired, I feel good - yay, no glutening from the candy onslaught (I was careful what I ate).
I went to a naturopath last week - not sure it was worth the $$$. She used a bioimpedence machine and bascially told me I was sensitive to all the thing we had talked about before the test (gluten - she tested wheat and rye, dairy, my environment (the pool), my sinuses were bad, etc.). I don't think I trust the Vegatest machine she used though. They test for what you think you are sensitive to only, no control measurements for comparison. You hold one end in one hand and they use a prod on your other hand with a vial of liquid that contains the suspected substance sitting on the machine. Ended up with a recommendation to follow the blood type diet (I'm O). Hmmm...I love my coffee but I will consider some of it, such as avoiding dairy. Funny how all things wheat and most gluten is one the avoid list....and O is the popular blood type, right ????
Other than that, winter is coming, kids are busy with hockey and other events, and I'm busy lifeguarding and instructing. We're getting ready to hunker down for winter - last year by this time it was -15C and we had a foot of snow, so I guess we should consider ourselves luckey it's above zero and there is no snow ! |

Nothing much happening around here. Big brother's birthday was Monday (we had his party on Sunday), Ty's birthday is today (party Saturday) and Halloween yesterday. The week of Halloween is always busy what with 2 birthdays, trick or treating, etc. T or T'ing was fine, a bit windy, but no snow and only about -1c so not too bad.
Plenty of hockey each weekend and swimming lessons mixed in as well.
Ty and I got to go to the Flames game on Tuesday. We had a blast (although the ref needed glasses). Flames 5 Nashville Predators 1. The best part was although the tix were $125 each we got them for free! (Thanks to SIL.) _________________ Mom of Ty (he's nine) who was diagnosed by bloodwork June 2005, biopsy August 11, 2005, notified on & started GF August 18, 2005 |

November is going to be crazy around here. There's 3 birthdays coming up (MIL, me, and DH, in that order), and then Thanksgiving, which will span 3 days. On top of all that we have to keep packing stuff up so we're not in a rush to move in January. By the end of this week our house should have siding.
I seem to have made it through Halloween just fine. Probably helps that I didn't eat much candy.
DH found another internship, huzzah! He should have all his hours completed before graduation.
Happy anniversary, Al and Peg! Just make sure you don't spend your anniversary at the car shop. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Nothing much new for me. I am doing really well avoiding gluten anymore but I seem to be having a lot of trouble with other intolerances lately which stinks. I'm not as busy as I thought I'd be (I do subbing) but I'm starting to think that's good 'cause I can focus more on my health.
My hubby mentioned a few trick or treaters at the base (he's overseas)--three dressed as soldier/ninjas and one Winnie the Pooh. He didn't give them any candy--just kleenex.
I thought about going to see my in-laws for the holiday but with my new sensitivities, I think that'd be a nightmare. I've already planned out what I will make for myself when we have Thanksgiving dinner. I'm keeping it very simple, so it should be a good day. |

I seemed to have turned a corner dealing with multiple intolerances. I'm feeling better and better after 12 weeks - not sure if it's vigilance and rotation, probiotics, time or what, but I'm eating a better variety of foods (most are naked and single-ingredient), have more energy and less despair along the lines of "what the heck am I going to eat".
I'll admit I did have 2 Tootsie Rolls today and have had no negative consequences (yet) even though they contain corn syrup, whey and soy lecithin. It's hard to ignore candy that is taunting you.
Eager to have my follow-up w/ Dr. Lewey on the 13th and see what he has to say. The lab bills are rolling in and I want some closure to this inquest.
My flower planters are still blooming even though it is November and that helps keep spirits up.
I'm bringing all my own food to Thanksgiving in order to take the pressure off the IL's and me.
Enjoy the weather if it's good where you are, and if not, bundle up! _________________ Nance

Happy Anniversary, Al & Peg!
And happy b-day, Os!
Halloween was REALLY busy around here--I had tons of trick-or-treaters! I thought I might miss a good chunk of the kids because of work, but I got home around 7, and had an assembly line at my door until about 9 PM. And believe it or not, I still had candy left over! Yep--right to the office it went!
Turkey Day is out in Cali for me, so that should be good...my brother and his fiancee are hosting, which is cool. I'm just excited to get out of Jersey for a couple of days.
Work has been insanely busy and will continue to be crazy through the end of the year...
And, did you all notice, the DAY after Halloween, the Xmas commercials began? Ugh--not ready for that!
Ok, well, time for this chick to get ready for work and put the contacts in!
Happy November! _________________ ~Torrey

Well, the weekend is beckoning here in Dublin, and i'm looking forward to it, we had a nice Halloween in our house, I made some nice fruit cake for the Coeliac Hubby, and low and behold we all dived into it, and he ended up getting a slice about the size of his little finger
I got the most awful migrane this week, spent two days in bed, and felt pretty miseralbe, but feel fine now,
Hope everyone has a nice weekend,
Hugs

Happy Anniversary Al and Peg!!
Halloween was fairly quiet here. Only a handful of trick or treaters. I was sure there would be more - we live in a townhouse complex with 30 homes - one stop for parents, but apparently, the parents around here don't think that way. Oh well. The smaller bags of M&Ms will be a nice treat and will keep me from getting tempted at work by the regular sized bags.
I have to start thinking about what to do for Thanksgiving. I made a turkey breast last year to bring to my mom's. I asked if she could NOT stuff the turkey so I could have some, but that wasn't something she wanted to do. I explained the whole CC issue with the stuffing in the turkey, but still no dice. So, I will make my own this year again and a pie too. She actually tested positive for Celiac, but her doc told her she is probably a carrier and doesn't have Celiac. I think she should get a second opinion, but she likes his answer and it took her 3 months to call back to get clarification on the results. My sister is coming home for Thanksgiving - I will have to work on her to get tested too. She has lactose intolerance and they say that gluten and lactose intolerance are linked. I doubt I will make any more progress with her than with my mom. Their reaction is always "I don't want to have THAT" as if the test itself determines the Celiac.
Other than that, I am still trying to get over my honeymoon ear infection. (Yup - been since August....) The infection it self is gone (for now) but the Eustachian tube is still blocked. When my allergies are acting up, I feel like I'm on a boat. The Ear Nose Throat guy said it should clear 4-6 weeks after the infection is gone. 2-4 weeks left. Hopefully I won't get another infection in that time.
Married life is great. About the same as it was before the wedding. Except my last name has changed, we have a joint checking account and matching hardware. (rings).

I have been Gluten Free for one year Yipee, I made it! Thanks to everyones help.
We finnally broke ground to build our new house. We were supposed to have the foundation in by now, but if you have ever built a house you know all about sub-contractors and their time. So hopfully next week it will be done.
I started working at a elementary school being a reading tudor. It's only three hours a day, however DH is wanting me to get a job with more hours. So I probably won't have it very long.
My 17 year old just got asked to the girls choice dance. It will be a challange since he also has CD. He doesn't want to make a big deal out of it, which is hard. I will probably try and call to talk to the girls mother and see where or what they will be eating to make sure it is safe.
Happy Anniversary Al and Peg! |

Hello all!
I am doing better the last several weeks. After quitting my job in March, I needed a huge amount of rest & recovery time. I have been gf for a full year, and now I am doing some contract work that is finally going well - I actually have the energy (mental and physical) to do it. But I'm still not ready to work full-time.
I sympathize about the family members who are in denial that they have celiac. My husband tested positive but refuses to believe it. Also, for the mother who insists on stuffing the Thanksgiving turkey: I made my best ever stuffing, gluten-free, before I had any idea I had celiac. I did it for a friend with celiac, and it was really easy. Let me know if you want to know what was in it (although i don't actually have a recipe).
The weather here in Colorado is almost too glorious to believe... |

Happy Belated Anniversary Al & Peg.............I hope Peg did the driving when you took her out to dinner. LOL (Glad you were not hurt in both accidents!)
Happy Birthday to all of you November babies!
Life is rolling along...........sometimes we don't seem to out run the steam roller though.
MrP is still having a hard time coming to grips with having to be declared disabled. (I guess it strikes a huge blow to the male ego.)
I have had a few more orders to start coming in slowly. I go Monday and find out if I am dismissed from my restrictions after surgery in mid Sept.
I found out that I was going to be a grandmother. My daughter that was recently married and moved to Germany is expecting. We found out on Tues night that our DIL was expecting, but unfortunately, on Thurs. I spent 6 hrs at the hospital with her and we will have to try another time.
The trees here are beautiful, but we are still walking around in short sleeves during the day and having 41 degree nights here in Alabama.
I have been back in the kitchen experimenting with making crackers. I really, really miss crackers! While investigating and learning about CARBS for my MIL's diabetes, I found some sites that have cracker recipes, but they really need to be played with to get them to come out nice and crisp and safe for MrP. I will post them as I succeed in making a viable cracker that actually crunches without removing the teeth from our mouths. LOL _________________

Hello and Happy B-day (Os) and Anniversary (Peg & Al) and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
I am traveling this month and so far I was trying to stick to Outback's but was glutened twice last week at two different Outback's. Both were in Florida. So far I have been through Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, a stop in Chicago and the Tampa Bay / St. Petersburg area. I leave for Wyoming on Tuesday and the Dakota's of course driving through Nebraska to get there.
It seems like my body really reacts quicker than ever when glutened and I get sick immediately now. Here's a little beach castle from Clearwater Fl.
