While searching for a restaurant near the motel that a friend that I am meeting is staying in, I came across a promo for a GF Cooking Expo that is very near me. http://www.glutenfreeclasses.com/index.html I was all excited and ready to go with my husband who does a lot of the cooking right up until I checked the prices. Crying or Very sad $379 per person is a lot more than I think we can afford at the moment. And that doesn't even include the room at the motel! Not that I was planning on staying at a place 10 minutes away from my house. The "early bird" prices were only $30 per person less, but you had to sign up by May 15. I hate it when people look at special interest groups as just a way to cash in and make money. I was actually willing to spend some money on it, but over $700 seems a bit pricey to me at the moment. I hope that if somebody from the group can go, that they will write us about it and fill us in. It really sounded like they had a lot to offer.

I know the woman orgainzing the event. After she was dx she decided to try to find a way to make money with her new found GF status. So, it's one of uswho is organizing the event.

The price is high for the weekend, but to go for one day it's less than $200....still a lot I know. As of last week there are still spaces available so you might consider emailing her and asking if you can get the early bird discount. If you want her direct email, PM me.

Wow, that IS spendy. The list of classes is pretty impressive, but I'm not sure it is THAT impressive. Sounds like a great time if one had the $ to pay for it.

I'd be curious as to what the money goes towards. Colleen's right: the classes don't seem good enough to warrant the price tag.

I looked through a lot of the web site. I didn't see anything that said that said they were contributing to any research or charity, but I suppose that I could have missed it. If they aren't, the fees are probably going to pay for the expenses, like the facility, speakers, "goodie bags", etc. Anything left, probably goes into the pocket of the organizer, I suppose. Several of the topics did sound interesting to me, but I am still finding it hard to justify the cost--especially if both of us want to attend. Even if we did it for only one day, it still amounts to a pretty good amount. I'm not even sure if those amounts include the dinners which I saw priced separately at a pretty hefty amount for a dinner as well.

I have a feeling the organizer is not making as much money as people might think. Top notch speakers can be very expensive. As a former president of a quilt guild chapter I was involved in hiring speakers to come and do seminars for us. We, as a small group, couldn't even begin to afford some of the speakers. Plus the contract would include travel, lodging, meals, etc. Also, the price of a convention hall would be very high, esp. when a lot of special preparations are needed for the event such as cooking areas, stoves, etc.
