The "Sleeping Better" thread prompted me to start this one. Observe yourselves and see what changes. There will be little things that you may not notice at first.
Let's try an experiment...watch your saliva production...and tell me what happens. OK? A few people have noticed changes. I won't tell you what has happend to me yet
Sharper vision, more vivid colors
Less tired
Almost NO reflux (still watch choc., spicy & tomatoes)
Better sleep
Weight loss from being sick. I've gained back 5-10 lbs of the 50 - but stable.
Very little gastro disturbances _________________ Al

ok al--it's been too long since i went gf --i still have sleep problems, but i tend to believe it is the stress in my life, not the celiacs --i lost wieght after going gf and have gained maybe 5 of the 60 back--i wont gain it back, i wont myhair grows faster now--bet you havent heard that one and the reflux is mostly gone for me too--tummy problems are 95% better--now i dont feel that my vision has improved, but then i am getting older --the saliva you will have to explain to me--that one i dont have a clue about deb |

I've only been on the GF diet going on 3 weeks now but I have noticed the burning pain in my stomach is gone, especially when I am very hungry, I get normal hunger pains not the burning pain. I could only go at best 2 hours without eating anything but I notice now I can go longer and just have a small snack between meals.
I'm not waking up as much at night and some of the aches and pains aren't as bad and the headaches aren't quite as bad. I seem to have a bit more energy. Unfortunately the brain fog and moodiness still seem to be with me. Constipation is still a problem for me too.
Most of my daughter's symptoms have disappeared though. She had constant stomach aches, constipation, rectal bleeding, joint/bone pain, moodiness, she even started getting migraines. Now, she only has some stomach aches but I think that is stress from school.
Saliva? You can't keep us hanging too long now! |

Wow; I had just posted back on my original thread about not having such dry eyes anymore, and being able to wear contacts 4+ days a week for the first time in 10 years!
So let's put this one into the mix - anyone else noticing not having dry eyes anymore? |

Ok Ok Since you are in the general area, I tell. (I didn't want the "power of suggestion" to interfere )
Several have noticed in INCREASE in saliva production. I just thought it was a side effect from my PN is some weird way) until I asked others. Sometimes it's so much I have to swallow mid sentence so I don't spit. I will sometimes eat an entire meal (usually lunch w/o drinking) - It's very weird...at least for me it is.
But Linea is noticing it in her eyes...they're not as dry!! Horrraaaay!!!!
There are links to Sjogrens disease and CD.
Please check out this Sjogrens success story from debinaz on another board. I think it's quite amazing. _________________ Al

Hmm....I can't say I am producing more saliva but I have noticed that my tongue does not feel tingly all the time or like I've poured salt on it and I can eat something salty and it doesn't seem to make me quite as parched as it did a few weeks ago.
I almost feel like I'm just copying everyone else by saying "oh ya that's me too" but some of these symptoms I don't realize are symptoms until they are gone and someone else mentions it.
So, keep them coming! |

wow--i was just reading in the site you gave us about sjogrens disease--i dont believe i have ever read about it before--heard many say they have it besides celiacs, but never put myself in that group---could be me when i read some of it--one of these days when i finally have medical insurance again, i am going to have some tests done so i know for sure--the hoarseness in the vocal cords sure hit home---my sister and i both had this happen to us years ago when our sons were in little league---i could not speak for at least 2 months and went hoarse so easily after raising my voice for just a few minutes---my sis and i both now still have raspy voices--my man says its such a sexy, raspy voice, but it does now seem even more strange that she and i both have it and are both celiacs too--wow--we both have problems with ou hands too and i was diagnosed with carpal tunnel--i do have raynauds disease too--my fingers must be kept warm, especially in winter or they turn gray--this i have known i have had for years too---still--alli can say is wow --deb |

Yes, I too have noticed not having dry mouth as much. I also have noticed a change in my skin dryness. I used to have terribly dry feet, with deep cracked skin. No amount of lotion seemed to help.
Another change is the thickness of hair on my legs, AUGHHH! Maybe this was 1 good side effect of CD. My hair was so baby fine and grew so slow I only had to save my legs 1 or 2 times a week. Now if the hair on my head would thicken I would be happier celiac. Can anyone advise me on this?

weird--i have noticed just the opposite with me---my body hair is not as noticable and the hair on my head grows faster--my hair grows at least a quarter of an inch a month, if not more and it is 22" long now --i can tell how fast it grows because i have earned every grey hair on my head--i dye it the dk brown it used to be, so i can tell the length by how fast the grey comes in ----my skin has always been dry---my heels have always cracked and you are right--my heels dont crack as bad now, but still do--my fingers at this time of the year always crack--lots of lotion ----deb |

Thank you Al, I needed to read things I said 4 yrs ago. HEre I am in 2008, diagnosed with sleep apnea, and I was surprised!!! Yet, 4 yrs ago, here I am telling you all that I still have sleep problems. When did I wipe that memory from my head??? I must have decided that my sleep problems were permanent and to just get used to them.
My hair still grows fast, at least 1/2 a month to 6 weeks.
Thanks again Al. _________________ You can't discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore! |

Hi Deb,
Well, it's no coincidence that you have no memory. Sleep issues can cause a huge amount of memory issues. If you do not get into the right stage of sleep your brain can not process or "file" things. It's this process of filing is where your memory comes from.

Peg used to work in an Alzheimer's/Dementia Clinic - the amount of sleep studies that were ordered were amazing! Often times, younger patients had sleep apnea - not Alz or Dementia!
Do they have you an a CPap machine? _________________ Al

I do not have the CPAP machine yet, I still have to sit with the sleep doctor who performs the final analysis and produces the written recommendations for me, then they will schedule me for a night with the CPAP machine. Today is the 2 week mark...they will be calling me any time now to set up the appt with him/her.
My neuro (in retrospect) seemed to know from the get-go that I was suffering from sleep apnea. He just kept asking questions, one being, "So, how's your memory?" to which I replied, "My what?" He laughed and said, "Yeah, exactly!" I told him I can't remember how to spell simple words anymore, can't think of people's names that I have known for years, can't write down the names of streets on patient's charts when they spell them to me....he says, "Yeah, that's what I was thinking!" I never thought about sleep apnea, even with my sons having it, it never occured to me that I might too. And Al, this will make you laugh...when Dr. G. told me to open my mouth wide, he says, "Your mouth is too small, your air passages to small!" I asked if I could have that in writing!!!!!
I honestly do not remember posting that I had sleep problems. It was like I was reading about another person. I guess it is all catching up with me now. I also am thinking, I finally found a good doctor!!! _________________ You can't discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore! |
