Hi guys....I'm jenn and 32 yrs old. I moved to Dallas from NYC in dec 07. my move was stressful and threw my body out of wack. Stress is not even the word to describe what i'm going through. It first started In feb.-when i got really sick with the flu/bronchitis for a month then lead into vertigo. It took about a month and a half to feed myself again well somewhat. I have vertigo on a daily basis but it's not like what I had in February where i couldn't stand or look up. Wasn't fun. Then, over the summer, my hormones were acting up. I literally felt dead inside. I had no drive. So I did hormone testing and all of my hormones were EXTREMELY low. So now i'm on herbal supplements to balance out my hormones. I heard about the cortisol saliva test and decided to do that(august 16)....got my results back this past week and my gliadin level is a 33...it's suppose to be a 13. So my doc says that i'm gluten intolerant. I can't have wheat, barley, oats and rye but i'm sure u all know that.

So yesterday i went to walmart and i was surprised that they had organic soups and on the label it says GLUTEN FREE Very Happy and i bought so GF pasta. I'm so new to this and there are some things that i'm sad about like I can't have my NY pizza or italian bread or regular pasta.....but I'll do anything to make sure to get my body healthy. I dont have bad symtpoms....just depressed Sad which sucks.....and no matter what i eat my stomach BLOATED like i'm 5 months pregnant....no joke and it's uncomfortable and embarrassing.

Oh yea so I bought some soups...I had the GF lentil soup last night-OMG it was really good. you really can taste a difference in regular soups than the GF/organic soups.

I'm so glad that i found this site so i can get the support i need. Thank you so much for reading my story.

God Bless,
Jenn

Hi, Jenn. Welcome to the group. Sorry you have to be here, but glad you found us. Wal-Mart is a great company to deal with. Many of their Great Value products are labeled GF. It's a great time and money saver when one shops there.

Here are some threads you may find helpful when just starting out

GF Diet Boot Camp

Our Paths to Gluten Freedom - some of us shared our stories, you might share your story there too.

GF Friendly Companies - How to read a label, and companies with good labeling practices.

Poke around and ask any questions you have. Very Happy

Welcome to the board! Last time I looked, Cool Ranch Doritos were OK. You should double check to be sure.

so I'm on my 5th day of GF diet and I have to say it's not bad. Don't get me wrong- I have dreams about cupcakes, cookies, pasta, SOURDOUGH BREAD, PIZZA!, CAKES CAKES COOKIES>......Right now i'm having all of these cravings. 1. I'm pmsing and 2. it's cuz I can't have the real thing. It all has to be GF.

I also notice that when i know I'm hungry-my stomach kinda growls and I feel like a lion that hasnt been fed in days- i dont have that stomach pain like I HAVE TO EAT NOW OR I WILL GO CRAZY! I'm not as tired like I used to be but I'm kinda tired cuz of pms. I dont feel as BLOATED as I used too. I still have a pouch which i'm hoping that in time-it'll be less noticeable.

So far this diet is going pretty good. A bit stressed at times because i never know what i want to make to eat or what to buy. But i dont have some recipes that i got from this site and I can't wait to make them.

Just wanted to give you all an update. I'm still learning and i know i'll be asking more questions.

Smile

Hey Jenn - thanks for the update. So many times we get people that come here looking for answers, support & help. We invest a good bit of ourselves in helping them - then they fall off the face of the earth. We never know if they found the answers, they died, or they just gave up and still live their lives in pain...

Thanks!

Hi Jen...welcome to the board...I am also from Texas and live in the DFW area...I don't know exactly where you live in Dallas....but there is a really good GF friendly store (with lots of GF stuff) at 121 and Glade (it's on the edge of Grapevine and Colleyville) It is called The Healthy Approach Market....the owners grandson has CD...so they are very well stocked...if that is close to you, then I highly recommend it...good luck and I hope that you just keep getting better and better....if I can be of any help let me know....

All those items you described have GF recipes that you can use for a substitute.

Let us know if you have more specific questions.

Hi Jenn,
Welcome to the forum, I have to say I'm only a blow-in myself.
I only joined this group recently, I'm active on many forums.
.
You might like to take a look at my Website, there's lots of information,
Medical References, Recipes, Photo's and even a section to let your hair down in (Fun Stuff)
.
I was diagnosed in Nov 2005 and I'm still learning, it will seem strange for a while but it will become second nature.
.
Best Regards,
David
